Once you properly file for ROC, you will et an extension letter. This extends the validity of the existing green card by 18 months.

You must carry the green card + original extension letter anytime you need to present your green card.

Exactly. We traveled to Vietnam using the letter. We tried to get a stamp in her passport, but the USCIS office said "We don't do stamps anymore." They explained that the letter is good because the info is in the system. The only problem we had was as the airport in Hanoi, Vietnam. A young immigration officer refused to let my wife go to her flight because the name on her ticket was not exactly the same as her name on her passport. She had to get a "verification" stamp (on her ticket) from the airline counter, stating that she is legit. Hey, it's a communist country, former war foe, and a lot men don't like American men marrying their women. I get it. Be prepared.

We've done many international trips while on ROC.  Just make sure you take your expired green card and the original extension letter.

There actually a "Socialist Republic"I haven't ran into this problem with their men. From my travels there and having a wedding there i haven't experienced this. Big wedding too. 200+ people at the reception. I found them to be friendly.

Maybe in the visa area it will be different. Haven't got their yet.

Bring you green card and the extension letter. When you come back from a foreign country, make sure you arrive EARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRLY. Give yourself at least 2.5-3 hours before flight departure. Because they likely will have to call the US side to verify your green card status before checking you in. It could take up half an hour or more for them to verify.

2015-03-23 AOS filed

2015-12-29 AOS approved

2017-10-03 I-751 filed

As a note, if the green card name is different than the passport name, also bring a copy of your marriage certificate to show why the name difference.  Always book international tickets on passport name.

One other note.  You need the expired GC along with the original watermarked extension letter to request re-entry into the US (and possibly a marriage certificate), but also bring a copy or two of the extension letter with you.  Back when my wife was traveling on the letter, the airlines in China asked to keep the letter which of course would not work, but my wife had a few copies with her and that was acceptable to the airline clerk.
