Thanks everyone!

And now for the "OH CR@P" moment...

I'm looking up the company online prior to the interview. It's a communications company (media/marketing) and I've applied for an admin/account assistant type of position (highly- to over-qualified). In my search I've come across another job they've posted for a writer (which is what I am if I find work in it). I have about 75% of what they want. My dilemma: Do I bring it up? Do I mention it at all? Do I wait for them to say something?

The only thought I've had is to ask if there is opportunity for learning different aspects of their business and/or if there's opportunity for advancement (in the hopes that the 25% of what I need for the other job might eventually come my way). I don't mind taking this job if I can possibly move into writing, but I don't mind taking *just* this job at all either. I just don't want to seem like I'm angling for more or would be unhappy with the admin job if I did get it.

:help:

You could mention that you would also like to be considered for the writers position, and just be honest and say that you found it advertised after applying for the existing one. If I remember correctly, you're a technical writer by trade so it wouldn't seem odd for you to ask.

I guess it depends on what the 25% you're missing is, and whether it's something you could pick up pretty quickly if you did get the writers job.

Either way, I don't see you having anything to lose by being honest and explaining it as it happened.

You go, girlie! :star:

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

That makes sense. It's also been suggested to me by someone on a PM that they may bring it up...my resume is geared to promote the writing/project skills over the clerical...even on this resume the clerical skills are added as an afterthought. So it may be that they are already on this page.

I guess I'll find out. No point in stewing overmuch about it! And I guess I'll put my writing samples back into my portfolio. ;)

Thanks!

Thanks Silvy. I'm sure it'll be fine once I'm there. I just am not that patient at waiting.
