hello

I am completing my 6 years of H1B visa on 2020 June mid. My daughter born in US on January 2020. I applied for the passport on March 15 & I have not received any update to her case.

I reached out to the passport center & they told that the centers are closed & it may take several months to get my daughter's passport.

As my VISA is expiring on June 2020, I am looking at ways to leave country with my daughter who may not have passport by mid of June.

Could you please guide me what alternate options do I have in this situation.

That says life or death emergency only. They’ll want evidence.

@Dharmu, a few questions:

1. have you tried calling the passport helpline to see what they say?
2. Have you booked tickets yet? The forums are full of people claiming they can’t fly back to India and looking for extension of stay as a result. You might try filing change of status to b2 on those grounds, if it true there are no flights. It almost certainly won’t be adjudicated before you leave if it’s later than that/you wait for the passport, but at least you won’t accrue unlawful presence.

3. If there are flights booked: Have you contacted the Indian embassy to see if there is an alternative your baby can use in the meanwhile, maybe they have something equivalent to the transportation letter a US embassy might issue for one time use? Then you can get the baby’s passport from abroad.

1. Yes called US passport application center few times. At this time they just say, all the centers are closed & it may take several months to process the application.

2. No I have not booked the tickets, as I don't have passport details of my daughter. And that is correct, currently India is not allowing any non citizens to fly to India.

3. That is a good recommendation. Thank you. I will approach the Indian embassy for this.

Thank you for the feedback.
