Hi all,

I just got my I-130 approved, and I'm just preparing documents for my eventual visa appointment. Just a question, I have a non-English birth certificate as I wasn't born in the UK but I'm a UK citizen.

What is the process for this? Do I get a certified translation? Any tips/advice from previous applicants would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

Take a look here:

Looking around the forums, it appears that the translated document does not need to be produced or notarised by a professional translation service and people have had documents accepted that they have had translated by family members/friends as long as this statement is included at the bottom:

Certification by Translator:

I     typed name    , certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and
languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the
document attached entitled                       .

Signature
Date                                          Typed Name
                                                  Address

I am not sure if this policy is any different at the London US Embassy (I can't see why it would be).

I saw in one of your previous posts that you received your NOA2 on May 15. Out of interest, did you receive this approval via e-mail or was it a physical letter in the post? I take it you are still waiting for your LND number from the Immigrant Visa Unit?

Thanks, that's very useful indeed!

On your question, I got a physical letter in the post last Friday. So now I'm waiting on the LND number... no idea how long that will take!
