No one dies from being 70.  They do, however, die from heart disease, cancer, obesity, organ failure, etc.  in the vast majority of cases, people don't die FROM covid, they die WITH covid.

I have no interest in asking her to fill out a medical survey at this time.

VoR, honestly could you try being a little more sensitive to someone that just lost a loved one from COVID? Your attitude is coming off like you are blaming the dead person for their own death and that's downright insulting. I just lost someone too! I know how and why they died and how the virus tore through their body within days. Without having been exposed to the virus they would have continued to live a perfectly fine life despite whatever conditions they had. We all have something or even will have something in the future. But that virus doesn't give a hoot. It will kill you all the same. If Paul and Mary hadn't of survived COVID, would it somehow be their fault too? Would you have said "oh that sucks, what underlying condition did Paul and his wife had that reallly did him in?".  C'mon man...

Not at all trying to be insensitive, sorry if it came across that way.  Just looking for the underling cause, just as we do race, age, gender, and blood type to try and ascertain where the virus attacks the most and how best to combat it.

I have a friend who had it bad, and nearly died from it.  He is obese, and likely had a much worse time of it than he would if he was a size or 5 smaller.

Covid-19 causes pathological processes such as thrombosis, sepsis and DIC that people in perfect health can have difficulty surviving. People with preexisting conditions have more difficulty surviving obviously, but it is not necessarily people with preexisting conditions that are progressing to that point. We have seen several people now in their mid 20's come in with sepsis or blood clots and end up dying. People do need to understand that there doesn't need to be preexisting conditions for someone to die from a blood clot or sepsis, and it is not preexisting conditions that is driving the severity of the inflammatory response that some people are having.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I care little about the data, which is by the nature of this disease is evolving dynamically.

What I do care about is those I know and love.

Of course you care about loved ones, that goes without saying.  But if you are unfortunate enough to catch covid yourself, that data is certainly going to mean more than it does now.
