For instance I don't disinfect my groceries or leave them outside in the sun, but I do disinfect the table the bags were sitting on after unloading, which I would think is a good idea on any day. I certainly wouldn't touch objects and then start rubbing my eyes or face.. common sense. If proper cleaning protocols were followed everywhere I think we'd be healthier overall. My concern with statements like this from the CDC is that someone over there is intentionally trying to downplay, because this does not match up with the brand new CDC guidelines that recommend disposable plates/cups/silverware and single use condiments and menus for tables. Now if one thought that the virus does not spread on surfaces easily, why would they say we'd need to go disposable? Surely a wipe down and dishwasher would be effective? Ultimately I don't think surface contact is the main action that causes spreading, but is one of several vectors. Also I've been thinking... more and more people are using phones constantly. That thing will get loaded with germs.

I think it is good that we are learning more about the ways this virus spreads. It is justified to be extra cautious in the beginning and adjust protocols as new information is gathered. 

From the CDC page, "It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about this virus." 

However, I will keep spraying groceries, bags, etc with 70% ethanol for now.

At this point, licking a toilet seat is probably as safe as listening to the CDC.

Well...someone thought it would be a good idea a couple months ago to mock covid and start one of those stupid challenges and it was to lick a toilet. They ended up getting it.

 

(although, of course, we don't know for sure that's where they got it from)

I'm sure someone who licks a toilet seat is someone who wouldn't engage in any other behaviors that might facilitate the transmission of this virus (to themselves). 😉
