My wife’s father’s I-130 was approved and sent to the National Visa Center. We paid the fees and have filed out all the documents. She, as the petitioner, will be filing an I-864 and I will be filing a I-864A as household.

There is a part that asks about military experience. My wife's father was in the military for 4 years back in the mid 80’s.  Later it asks about experience with firearms. He would have experience but it was so long ago does it still require us to say yes to that question?

The second question I had was it asks about previous Visa attempts. He did apply for a tourist visa back in 2015 (I think it was B1) and a little later maybe late 2015 or early 2016. Both times was denied. We put a brief explanation in the prompt but I am wondering if it should be more detailed. "I APPLIED FOR A TOURIST VISA IN 2015 TO VISIT MY DAUGHTER IN THE UNITED STATES AFTER THE BIRTH OF HER FIRST CHILD. I WAS DENIED AGAIN 6 MONTHS LATER."

Let me know what you think.

In my recollection, the questions are usually phrased as “have you ever...”. Doesn’t matter how long ago something was, if it happened and the question does not specify a time period, then the answer is yes.

Don’t need more detail for the tourist visa denials.

Of course he has to answer yes to that! He had military/fire arm experience.
