I changed my address by going to www.USCIS.gov/addresschange

  1. Do i also have to mail the physical AR-11 form to the Harrisonburg, VA address?

  2. In the form it says "If you are in immigration proceedings, you must separately notify the Immigration Court of any address changes. Filing Form AR-11 with USCIS does not update your address with the Immigration Court". Can someone explain what this means? I'm a total noob at this.

You file Form AR-11 online, and the US Citizen has to snail mail form I-865 Sponsor Change Of Adress.
We just moved in January (pending AOS after marriage as well) and had to submit both.

No big deal, and you get a confirmation letter for both.

Hey just curious. In the AR-11 form, it says "If you are in immigration proceedings, you must separately notify the Immigration Court of any address changes. Filing Form AR-11 with USCIS does not update your address with the Immigration Court". Do you know what this means? Do i have to notify a court of my address change?

1) It is not required to do both. I only changed online and it worked. Some people have had issues so it's not necessarily bad to mail it too IMO.

2) Are you currently in immigration proceedings with a court? You would have received a Notice to Appear (NTA).

I honestly don't know what "immigration proceedings" means!

I'm not involved with the court at all and didn't receive NTA. I'm a typical applicant (no criminal records, anything weird in application etc.) going through the typical steps.

Can someone explain who this pertains to?

I'm a F1 student going through the AOS process by marriage. I just moved and i changed my address from USCIS website. I was going through the AR-11 form and came across that excerpt. I'm not involved with the court in any way and i'm a typical applicant going through the green card process.

So what is the issue?  AR11 changes your address with ONLY the uscis

YMMV

Just wanted to make sure that changing address through the USCIS website is all i have to do.

And i don't have to contact a court of some sort to let them know that i moved. I have a pending green card application. Does that mean i'm in "immigration proceedings"?

Generally, you would know if you were going through immigration proceedings. You would basically be facing deportation and have been sent an NTA.

(I only say "generally" since it's possible to be issued an NTA without ever actually receiving it...i.e. if sent to an old or wrong address)

If you haven't been picked up by ICE, sent an NTA to appear for court, etc., then you likely are not in any immigration proceedings.

Thanks a lot! I was just overthinking. I can comfortably stop looking at courts near me 😊
