I won’t have to work on this for some time, but I just want to know for the future. I’ve had seriously ill parents for some years now who I’ve been taking care of, and I have very limited work experience and am not currently employed. I will be searching for employment soon (if there is anything available since everything is shut down). I just want to know how much time I will have to provide sufficient proof of income after getting married. Do I provide it after he comes here and applies for adjustment of status? Or is it submitted before he comes to the states? I’m really confused lol.

have you looked through the guide? "lol"

I haven’t looked through it yet but I have had a lot of questions answer in this thread. Now I know I have time to get my act together before having to submit the affidavit of support. A few users said that the spouse visa is a better way to go than the K1 as I’ll have more time to get employment experience and supporting evidence. I was worried that since my parents are claiming me as a dependent that it would cause issues; but that only seems to be a problem if I use them as a joint sponsor. So I’ll be fine as long as I start working soon.

You know you can ask others to help with income support and can file an affidavit of support based on their income until you have your own income support. When you have your own support, if it meets their poverty guidelines you can use your own income support or if your income doesn’t meet their poverty guidelines you still have to use other people to help with income support.

LOL it isn't quite as easy as that.  Not everyone is comfortable signing a contract with the US government to be on the hook for the immigrant's support.

And the contract can last forever or until the beneficiary has 40 quarters of qualifying SS, becomes a citizen, abandons  residency or dies.   It is amazing how many immigrants never naturalize.

My parents have given me the okay in case I need them as a joint sponsor. But based on the information I’ve been given, I have enough time to get my act together and get employment experience and supporting evidence of that.

Don't forget that you will need a plan for health insurance as well.  That often becomes a priority consideration when doing a job search.

Do I absolutely need it with the job specifically, or can I get a separate health insurance plan?

It is more about your plans for insurance for your spouse, due to the public charge issue.

Yes through your state health exchange/market place. Most likely would be cheaper through your health insurance though.

Hopefully the OP will have a job with good health insurance to which her? spouse can be added. They have not started, so we are looking at 2022?
