Here’s what I did...as someone who just filed recently (last month). Where it asked how we met I said added additional information and we typed up a detailed paper. This paper explained that we met on an online dating website on x date. After speaking there we decided to further our communication to WhatsApp. This detailed paper was not even a full typed page but we both did it in our own words signed it and we did not get an RFE :)

Here is from someone who has been approved.  Three sentences.

What you did was way more than what is needed.

YMMV

At least your attorney told you to overdo it instead of not doing it at all, unlike many attorneys we hear about here on VJ.

When we filed our i-129f back in 2016 the letter called "circumstances of meeting" was considered A MUST to avoid an RFE. I assume it still is then?

Our letter was like four sentences. We sent this:

We were actually very lucky, we didn't receive an RFE despite only writing that we met online. We didn't specify it at all, and obviously didn't send any TOS either.

So for everyone else reading this thread and who hasn't filed yet - make sure you do send an explanation of how you first met (if online), and how you first met in-person. Make it short, but make sure you add the important stuff. If you met online, mention the website and print out the TOS. I also remember several people from back when we filed that actually messaged the website and specifically asked if the website was an marriage broker one, and then they printed the response and sent it with the i-129f.

No “circumstances of meeting” letter was required when we filed in 2018.  Just question #54.  We didn’t even describe how we first came to know each other at all, just the visit dates.

pffft

I’d advise you to get your money because that marriage broker act is very simple and straightforward but you’d be wasting your time to ask.

No I don't think it was ever a requirement, but it was well known that people who didn't specify where and how they met got an RFE, and it was also well known that the space on the form wasn't enough (even for my short 4 sentence explanation). Hence the extra sheet of paper.

Funny the change two years later.
