Hi all,

I (the beneficiary) have another question

I previously mentioned in another post a few months ago that I do not have a permanent address

For the I-129F form :

Item Numbers 12.a. - 15.b. Your Beneficiary’s Address History. Provide the addresses for the places your beneficiary has resided over the last five years

For the last 5 years I have constantly been travelling around.

  • I only have UK passport, UK citizenship and no resident visas for any other country.
  • I stayed in Portugal for a lot of consecutive months at my ex's place as I held a UK passport which is visa free entry to Portugal.

I never had residency there officially nor a job or any ties to the country so I was officially a tourist every time I entered.

  • I also flew to Hong Kong to visit my parents for consecutive months but I have no official ties to Hong Kong neither. No job or residency visa.
  • For the times in between I would be on vacation in various countries including UK to visit family.

My timeline was something like this : Portugal 3 months, Hong Kong 2 months, Portugal 1 month, UK 1 month, Spain 1 week, Portugal 1 month, Greece 1 week, Hong Kong 1 month etc

I will be providing Police Certificates for Portugal, Hong Kong and UK regardless as I was in these three countries the most.

But I am completely stumped what to put for those past 5 years.

I am worried if I put down my ex's address they will search it and see I have no residence visa or any official ties to that address

Same thing if I put my parent's Hong Kong address

My mailing address will be my uncle's address in UK.

I also won't be able to date any of them as I was constantly flying.

This is something that has worried me the most.

Was it up to 6 months consecutively?

Did you stay for 6 months or more for any of your visits?

Total of 11 months as a visitor and non for 6 months (You dont need a police certificate from any of those countries as you did not reside there for 6 months consecutively ) .....where have you lived in the past?

*** Does it mean you visited 8 countries for the past 5 years but you never stayed for upto 6 months at a time?

Speak the truth even if your voice shakes

I wouldn’t worry about. The US government isn’t going to be dealing with a visa issue between the UK and another country. Only Portugal would care if you violated some visitor rule.

.....where have you lived in the past?

I lived in the UK up until around start of 2016
Then my rent ran out and I went and visited my ex in portugal and family in hong kong a lot.

I thought it was best to provide police certificate regardless as some others commented in a previous post I posted that I should do this in case they ask any questions. I also think it may be better to just have them in hand in case they see it as an issue as I was in Portugal for 8 months of the 12 month year , but just not consecutively

I visited a lot more than that but I would have to look them all up as a lot of them were just last minute vacations and holidays, but yes it was not at 6 months consecutively at a time.

does anyone have any advice for this particular topic?

After some thinking I think it's best to put down my ex's home in Portugal as my address for 2016-2019 as even though I was there as a tourist status, I did return back to Portugal a lot and my time was predominantly there. I will file for police certificates and see if they will allow me to obtain them as a tourist.

From 2019 I travelled to Hong Kong to visit my parents as a tourist with two separate 3 month visits to US in between which brings me to the present.

I am currently in Hong Kong as a tourist since March 2020 but I plan to fly to UK in a few months time

Do I put my current address as my parent's home in Hong Kong (but this would mean I would need to obtain police certificates from Hong Kong?)

Or should I put it as the UK address where I will eventually fly to ? My chosen embassy/consulate would be London UK

I understand that they care mainly about address for 6months or more

If possible, I would prefer to put the UK address as the truth was I was on a long long vacation BUT the issue I was not in UK a lot from 2016 onwards and I am certain they will be able to see this from checking my passport details and there will ask where I was possibly?

I don't get stamped upon entry to Portugal nor Hong Kong so my passport pages are essentially blank but I'm sure it's in the "system"

I feel like asking an attorney is easier but not sure where to find one for just one question regarding addresses.

Edit: Also I don't think this post is in the correct section but I don't know how to move it

I’m not so sure the US government has a system to track British citizens’ travels. Why would they track every foreign citizen worldwide? Maybe if you were a known terrorist, they might be putting eyes on you.

Your don’t fit the norm so be creative and explain your unique situation on an additional attachment. Put “see attachment” in the space on the form. Attachment will have form, page and question number referenced at the top.

Mr. Liberty Bear has not had a permanent address during the last five years, preferring to travel and stay with friends and family. His travels are detailed below to the best of his knowledge.

(make columns or a spreadsheet which I can’t do in this reply)

Date  .......................... Visiting . Address ..........Town.... Country .. Postal Code

Feb 2015-July 2015....Friend.....123 Main St....Lisbon...Portugal.. ABX 555
July 2015.....................Parents.  2 Church St. (Etc)

Aug 2015-Dec 2015.....Friend....123 Main St....Lisbon...Portugal...ABX 555

Jan 1016......................Holiday...........................Orlando, Fl..USA

That is actually so helpful! Thank you so so much!

Also regarding

I was more worried when UK does the check on me as I'm a citizen there I thought they might double check their own citizenships

But that is actually very helpful thank you !

I don’t understand. When is the UK going to check you and for what reason?

I was originally going to just put my UK address down without explaining my travel history

But then I assumed that the US could just ask for my travel history from UK during immigration purposes and then they would see all the times I entered and left the UK (although as I'm typing this I'm not sure what they would want with that information.... haha)

I think I'm just overthinking, I have no idea how personal data works for different countries

I guess I just assumed that it would be down to UK to confirm that the UK citizen is who they say they are
I assumed that US does their address checks somehow and that UK provided the information for them

(I have no idea, I'm a natural worrier)

Your whole process is with the US government. The embassy is the US, even though in London. They aren’t going to be talking to the UK about you.  Your address for the last five years will come up again several times during your immigration journey, so work out how you plan to answer and save your document for future reference.

Don’t try to think what they might be thinking. They aren’t thinking. They have a process and are just ticking off the boxes of what is required. They aren’t working up a soap opera in their mind of your love life and travels and motives. It’s just a job to them. Answer the questions as best you can and remember their objective isn’t to dream up a scheme to catch you out.
