Do all of you traveling to the US right now have valid health insurance for the US?
Due to the global travel advisory, basically no insurance would cover you that I have found.   So if something were to happen you would have to pay out of pocket. This is why I’m hesitant to go for now.

I called CBP and they said I can cross at Pearson. Also, INF is offering health insurance for Canadians and covering COVID as a new illness. One of the only ones doing so I believe. Obviously you should go for the highest premium should you choose it.

In the US, I was able to self isolate at my fiance's. Coming back into Canada, they are much more strict. Are you flying into the US? or Canada?

I used American Airlines as that was the only option at the time, and it only cost me $220 US. My fiance actually lives in Catonsville, MD but flights into/out of BWI were nightmarish long.

Under normal circumstances, we would drive cross border to see each other. Since starting the K1 process, and before the covid, I've crossed into the US by land border 4 times. I just carry alot of documentation to prove residency in Canada should customs ask for it.

I would be flying from Canada to the US. Land crossing was never an option since he's all the way down in Atlanta and I don't drive anyway. Sounds good about the quarantine in the US, that's good to hear. I'm good with a Canada quarantine on return since I'm expected to do one even between Quebec and N-B and I live alone/got laid off anyway/don't have anything better to do lol.  😌 I looked up flights last night after finding out about this thread and there isn't much yet for me. Halifax is my usual airport and I don't think they're doing international flights there yet? Air Canada won't have any flights at all to ATL at least until July according to their schedule but I did find some Delta ones, albeit with an overnight layover in Detroit. I'm sure I could keep digging though but I was planning on visiting family anyways so I don't think I'd be flying until at least July, will look more carefully into it later.

Rambling aside, I'm so thankful for this post though, thank you so much! 😭 I don't think I would have realized that this border closing was only for land at all otherwise. I did saw news articles chastising mentioning  the fact there are still international flights going but I had just assumed it was from countries other than the US or for essential travel/humanitarian reasons, etc. The land border might open in late June but if it doesn't I'm so thankful this is an option.

Also thanks for the tip about INF Rachel, awesome info too.

Sorry for the tl;dr life stuff, pretty lonely stuck at home and nobody understands this stuff like the people here. Hope everyone can keep us updated with their travels and plans and how it goes. 🤗

Can you link some examples for air travel into the US? I could only find examples for air travel into Canada: https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2020/05/03/canadians-with-foreign-national-spouses-face-obstacles-at-border.html "However, since April, a growing number of foreign spouses and children of Canadians have been refused admission into Canada because their travels are deemed “non-essential and optional” by Canadian border agents at airports and land border crossings, said lawyers."

I used American Airlines direct website to fly into the US

My post wasn't clear. I meant examples of denials for flying into the US. I have only seen approvals for flying into the US. This differs from non-Canadians flying into Canada, which is stricter.

Exactly since I am GC holder and have N400 interview wating I dont wanna risk and fly to Canada. It doesnt make any difference now and wait for them to open border on June 21st.

I see there is Air Canada flight 3hr from FLL that i am using and the date is June 23rd. I AM happy with that.

Well, I took a flight Wednesday, said I told them(airport customs) it was to visit fiance, no other reason, and I was only asked regular questions (where, why, how long, where do I work etc).

Nothing mentioned about essential/non-essential.

Guess it's up to the border guys.

I called my airport customs, and the border a day before and day of my trip, they all said it was fine. So I took the chance, and now I'm in the US until August.

@DGF @HRQX

how did you find the information to contact your airport customs? I was looking, as I would like to visit my fiance, but wanted to call, as I'd be flying through Vancouver.

I’m going next Thursday! I called CBP directly from the number on their website not the actual crossing as they don’t answer.

Delta. I’m flying to Colorado they don’t require quarantine. Only when I fly back to Canada.

US federal authorities don't enforce a quarantine as it's only a recommendationhttps://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/from-other-countries.html

So it's state specific: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/destinations/2020/05/25/coronavirus-travel-restrictions-us-states-quarantine-requirements/5256975002/

It's an extension of the land border closure. And some exceptions have recently been introduced for immediate relatives of Canadian citizens and PR.
