Hi everyone.i have question. My wife changed her job but that new company doesn’t have enough workers to get her insurance .So she is looking for some insurance by herself and it is expensive. She is thinking to have insurance from social services or have to wait till October when new enrolment start .Would it be considered public charge at the time of visa interview ? Any suggestion or any cheaper insurance if you guys know ? Any response will be highly appreciated 🙏

She qualifies for special enrollment,  has she looked at the marketplace for minimum essential coverage plan?  Same now or later during open enrollment

Hi there, I am not quite sure if it would cause any issues regarding "public charge", but I will say for an embassy like Islamabad, you don't want any questions or concerns to arise during the interview. I would think that you both having insurance would be beneficial. Utilizing welfare wouldn't be something you would want to do...

On the marketplace they are referred to as "bronze" plans.

YMMV

Yes true , I am going to get some private insurance online prior to interview, I hope we’d  find some minimal insurance plan for my wife too ..though my interview location is different country still we don’t want anything problematic

Oh, okay. That's good you're not dealing with Islamabad. I am sure you will be fine. If I hear of any good/cheap insurance plan, I will let you know. I am actually going through the same thing. I am a disabled military veteran and only have VA (Veteran's Healthcare) coverage. Under Trump's new order I feel that I may be considered a "public charge."

She changed her job on 22 February , it’s been more than 60 days .so it means she can’t do enrolment now ?? And Consulate ask to beneficiary for petitioner’s health insurance at the visa interview? Thanks a lot it’s really kind of you

Has she not had insurance since February?  It is not 60 days from changing jobs, it is 60 days from losing coverage.  If she had coverage through you, or through COBRA, then the 60 days starts from when that coverage ended.

In your original post, you said her new company doesn't even offer insurance.
