My finance was given a K1 Visa in January (Or December, I forgot).   We scheduled the flight for middle of February (from Wuhan), but as we all know the city was locked down and no one was allowed to leave.   We tried emailing the embassy in China and they're closed for now. The visa expires really early next month (the 9th), and from what I'm reading here it seems like 1 of 2 things might be possible.

1) The visa will be given an extension

2) The travel restrictions don't apply to K1 so we should have scheduled a flight already, and need to reschedule another one immediately.

Can someone help me figure out which situation it is?  Before reading some of the similar posts in the forum, I thought it was 1 -- but now I'm thinking 2?

If consulate agrees; but a new visa medical would be required.

The ban does apply to K-1: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-2019-novel-coronavirus/ "The entry into the United States, as immigrants or nonimmigrants, of all aliens who were physically present within the People’s Republic of China, excluding the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau, during the 14-day period preceding their entry or attempted entry into the United States is hereby suspended and limited subject to section 2 of this proclamation." If your fiance goes to HK, South Korea, etc. for 14 days then she can enter the US.

Thanks.  The new "ban/proclamation" doesn't apply to K1 Visas it seems, and I confused the two.  I appreciate the info.

I wish I could find out if the "consulate" would agree early, but it seems as if I'm going to have to rush to try and figure out tickets because 2 weeks from now is already quite close to the expiration date of the visa!

Thanks again!

You’ll likely need a new medica to apply for an extension

while the EO dosent apply to K1, your issue will be the beneficiary being from China to which the EO does apply.. she’ll need to quarantine in a third country (that’s not barred from entry under the EO) for at least 14 days per-entry to the US, in which case there’s a pretty good chance your visa will have expired anyway..

1) No, visas cannot be extended,  possibly reissued

Embassy in Beijing is not closed,  besides the embassy is the wrong place to contact,  you need to get in touch with the IV visa unit at the Consulate in Guangzhou

YMMV
