I wonder if there’s a way one of the mods can update the guide just to mention the I-944 requirement if it’s not there already?

EDIT: I see an example completed form 🙂

There is a thread to request those updates. The I-944 is just potentially a very complex beast, so I'm assuming that's the delay. It can be very simple, or it can be very complicated....it all depends on one's individual circumstances.

Although I certainly am not opposed to at least listing it in the meantime... 🤷‍♂️

Even after the grace period, Immediate Relatives of US citizens can file for adjustment: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-7-part-b-chapter-8

I know. I just figured they don’t want to get out of status (for whatever reason), so I thought I could help. Thanks for clarifying, though.

Also welcome to the Scandinavian thread. We have a couple of members who right now are in the process of getting their K-1 visas at the embassy in Stockholm. Once they arrive in the US they will have to file for the AOS just like you do now, by the time they're ready for that maybe you have some insight in the process that can help them out. The i-944 is so new to everyone, I myself know nothing about it.

Hi, I have followed the guide on this site fully, every single step. My application was rejected today because they say:

"The application/petition has not been fully completed. Based on the selection made under Part 2 Application Type or Filing Category, the form I-944 and/or Form I-864/I-864EZ are required."

I have choosen "Principal applicant" and "family based - immediate relative spouse of U.S citizen"

I have included the I-864 as stated in the guide, I don't know what is wrong. This is the third time I get my package back and two months of waiting in vain. I don't know what to do 😢

Hi Strawberryfields,

I understand how you might feel after finding out about form I944, honestly it was by far the hardest part in term of gathering the documents but it's doable. You can look at this list and I hope it'll help you. I am a F1 student too and this is a copy of our list for this packet. Make sure you include as much document as you can because they can always throw away the extra stuff but if you're missing something they'll ask for it later on.

  1. Form I-944

1.     2 Passport style Photographs (Name at the back)

2.     Cover Letter

3.     G-1145 Form – E-notification of Application Acceptance

4.     Form I-944: Declaration of Self-Sufficiency

5.     Copy of Marriage Certificate

6.     Copy of the Beneficiary W-2’s for the most recent year

7.     Copy of the Beneficiary Form 1040 for the most recent year

8.     Copy of the Beneficiary IRS transcript for the most recent year

9.     Copy of the Petitioner W-2’s for the most recent year

10.  Copy of the Petitioner Form 1040 for the most recent year

11.  Copy of the Petitioner IRS transcript for the most recent year

12.  Copy of the Beneficiary Checking and Savings Record with translation

13.  Copy of the Petitioner Checking and Savings Record

14.  Copy of Beneficiary Education Related Loans with translation

15.  Copy of the Beneficiary U.S. Credit Report

16.  Copy of the Beneficiary U.S. Credit Score

17.  Copy of the Beneficiary Health Insurance and Coverage

19.  Copy of the Beneficiary Graduate Degree Unofficial Transcript

20.  Copy of the Beneficiary Graduate School Enrollment

21.  Copy of the Beneficiary Undergraduate Degree Official Transcript and Diploma

22.  Copy of the Beneficiary Associate Degree Official Transcript, Diploma, WES Evaluation and Translation

I’m currently completing the I-944 and it definitely is a complex beast! An example form for this doesn’t help as much as it does for the other forms as it is so unique based on the person completing. And for me, I find the questions difficult to understand (I.e if it’s referring to just the beneficiary or the entire household), which an example form can’t really cover without additional instructions.

It seems that a lot of people refer to the guides on this site, so I thought a note to say that the I-944 is now also required would be helpful.

I am confused about what document i should send USCIS for:

Copy of the Beneficiary U.S. Credit Report

Copy of the Beneficiary U.S. Credit Score
Copy of the Beneficiary W-2’s for the most recent year
Copy of the Beneficiary Form 1040 for the most recent year
Copy of the Beneficiary IRS transcript for the most recent year

I do not have access to any of these as i've never had a SSN. I read in the form instructions that they still want documents that prove i don't have those and i don't understand what to send to them.

Also regarding:

Copy of the Beneficiary Checking and Savings Record with translation

My bank account is just embarassing, i don't have savings. Should i just send them a screenshot of my american bank account? There's not much there. I get by month to month right now on student loans.

Hi,

I wasn't in the case of not having a ssn nor a credit report because I was allowed to work through school for the past few years; however when this is the case I've read that you can ask one of the 3 credit bureaus to issue you a document that shows you don't have a credit history/score. I'm not exactly sure how to get them but I've seen plenty of I-944 related forum where people were in the same case than you (usually k1 filers) and they were able to get a statement stating they don't have a credit history.

It's understandable that you get by month to month while being a F1 student - and they shouldn't penalize you for not having a lot of savings in your situation. It's actually regarded as a good thing to be enrolled in school so don't worry about your debt. Just make sure you provide as much documents as you can so try to provide 12 months statements of all the bank account you have.

I will look at the form instructions to find the credit bureaus. So one statement from them will cover all of these?:

Copy of the Beneficiary U.S. Credit Report

Copy of the Beneficiary U.S. Credit Score
Copy of the Beneficiary W-2’s for the most recent year
Copy of the Beneficiary Form 1040 for the most recent year
Copy of the Beneficiary IRS transcript for the most recent year

I also wonder about my high school diploma. I've gotten it written in English by the high school. Do they need my grades for the individual classes or only the certificate? And do they need the high school certificate translated even when it is written in English already?

Yes you can check them out, we used equifax but you can also check with experian or transunion. Their statement will just cover that you don't have a credit history and therefore no credit score but it shouldn't cover tax related questions.

For those I think there's a box to check that you have not filled taxes yet (don't quote me on that though).

You don't need to retranslate you certificate if it's a;ready in English. You might want to provided  these grades in case you don't have a higher degree and it could also help to prove your english proficiency level.

Did you send an email to Equifax and print the response for your application or how did you get their statement? I can't find anything on the websites of the companies listed. I've tried calling them but they're all asking for a SSN, which I don't have.

So i've got a question regarding health insurance. I'm in the situation right now where i couldn't afford health insurance for this term at the time when they were enrolling and now it's too late. Is it okay to send them the application without any health insurance information? It doesn't feel right.

I'm not allowed to get a health insurance coverage at most companies because i don't have a SSN. Any suggestions for me?

SSN isn't required. From the government: "You should advise your coverage provider that you do not have an SSN or TIN and give them the date of birth for each covered individual." https://www.irs.gov/affordable-care-act/questions-and-answers-about-reporting-social-security-numbers-to-your-health-insurance-company

Post with some info about insurance without SSN:

I was turned away from the person i called that transfers people to health insurance companies. Well - He actually turned me to MediCal. Which is a government assisted health care. Doesn't it look horrible on my application if i'm using this country's tax money to get a cheaper insurance when I haven't gotten any acceptance from USCIS yet?
