Police records india - canada

Hi

my parents are at the NVC stage and I am not sure about which document is needed for police records.

My parents lived in India until the 1990s and immigrated to Canada, where they now reside and are Canadian Citizens.

As i was reviewing the police certificate requirement, it seems like they will need police record from india since they lived there past age 16.

but i was looking at this site (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country.html) to see what they can substitute that with and the following scenarios are listed:

Document Name:

All Indian nationals aged 16 and above, residing in India - Indian Police Clearance Certificate.

Indian passport holders residing outside India – statement of no criminal record

Non-Indian applicants residing in India who are registered with the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) – Police Clearance Certificate

Non-Indian applicants who reside in India and are not FRRO registered (such as Tibetan Identity certificate holders) - Police Clearance Certificate

So they dont hold indian passports anymore (canadian citizens).

So do i need to get criminal records from india for them or will Canadian records be enough?

thanks for your help!

hmm thank you. So i would take it that they dont need indian certificate. This page from NVC confused me. since they are now canadian citizens, the first one applies. But then they have also lived in another country for more than 12 months, which would make them get an india police cert as well.

By since they dont give out indian police cert for non indian national not living in india, they wont need it?

That’s correct, NVC will ask for police certificate for sure but you submit a statement mentioning the nonavailability of the certificate based on visa reciprocity link. May be quote that in the statement.

Hi Guys

Just wondering if PCC is different from statement of no criminal record? I moved to Canada when I was 18 from India so I have 2 years after I turned 16 in India. I was able to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate through Indian Consulate in Vancouver. Will that document suffice?

P.S. - I hold Indian passport

Acmanu, was the Police Clearance Certificate accepted by the NVC?

I am wondering the same too?

**On another note- if you are an indian passport holder but lived in other countries (Germany, Dubai)..do you just upload a statement of no criminal record yourself? or do you go to the issuing authority or consulate in Germany and ask for that statement? TIA.

@acmanu were you able to proceed with the PCC or were you required to get statement of no criminal record from the Consulate. Even I need to get statement of no criminal record for purpose of K1 visa, any information and how to obtain the document from embassy would be helpful. TIA

@acmanu I just got my PCC from India after one and a half months. It states below:

Quote

"It is certified that there is no adverse information against [Applicant' Name] holder of Passport No. [Passport Number] issued at [Place] on [date] which would render him or her ineligible for IMMIGRATION PURPOSE OTHER THAN CITIZENSHIP of CANADA."

This PCC is not valid for any other purpose or country.

Did it show similar for your PCC that was accepted. Moreover it also has my photo on this PCC. Just want to be sure this will work.

Can anybody on this group comment if this was accepted for consulate interview for K1 visa.

Thanks
