Hi All,

Appreciate anyone who can shed some light to my query. My mom filed an I-130 Petition for Alien Relative for myself way back 2014 and already approved. This is during the time that my mom was a legal permanent resident. Recently about a month ago, she took oath as a US Citizen. Now my question, is my visa type converted to F1 from F2B since my mom is already a US Citizen? Is it automatic that it will be converted to F1?

Thank you and appreciate all your answers.

Regards,

It will be converted automatically once they learn of the change. They can contact NVC (since they have it) to inform them.

That said, she has the option to retain F2B category. In some cases, F2B may be faster than F1. At this time, I believe that is actually the case. If she wants to do so, she still needs to request that they do so.

Thank you. Actually as per latest release of Visa Bulletin, F1 is advance by few months compare to F2B. So, if the visa type will be converted automatically, that would be fine. But in any case that it reverse, do i still have an option to change back to F2B?

I would not look at a single month (or even a few) as a trend.

Some good info on advancement per month, and predictions w/ explanations as to why. F1 is moving faster than historical averages right now, which means a slowdown or regression is probable in the future. At least that's my take, and it appears to be shared.

Edit: They actually have an F1 vs F2B section. However, the conclusion there doesn't make sense to me....their own chart shows a predicted disadvantage in coming years but they suggest keeping F1. 🤷‍♂️

I believe it's a one-time thing. You either opt-out or remain.

Great. Thank you for the information. I am just hoping that the trend continue for the remainder of the year. Wishful thinking! HAHA
