Hi there,

I have a question that’s bugging me. I showed my medical forms to the US embassy in Japan, and we think that we also sent copies with the I-485 form, however the medical exam doc is set to expire in October, 2020 and I worry with the slowdown due to COVID-19 that my medical documents will expire before I will have my interview.

Should I have another medical examination done or am I ok?

Thanks!

With regards to AOS, there is no expiration date on the overseas medical if filed within 1 year of the date of the medical. That means if you file for AOS before the medical is 1 year old, you don't need a new one. It doesn't matter when your interview takes place, it only matters when you filed.

The medical done within the US has a 2 year validity, if I'm not mistaken. The overseas medical doesn't have an expiration date for AOS purposes (if filed within 1 year).

Now, it does happen from time to time that an immigration officer doesn't know the rules himself, and wrongfully asks for a new medical. It doesn't seem to happen often though.
