hello folks -

i've been perusing the site for a while, and I know I will have to control myself as to not spend 24 hours a day here! in the beginning of the process it seems like there is always more information, always more questions, more doubts, more paperwork, more bureaucracy to figure out...in addition to being separated by thousands of miles and multiple countries (or continents) from the person you love BECAUSE of said paperwork and bureaucracy....go figure !

Anyhow, I am going to initiate the process of filing for a K-1 visa for my brasilian fiance, and already have a few questions right off the bat, if you folks wouldnt mind helping me out (note: I also speak portuguese, so to the brasilians out there, feel free to reply to me in portuguese if you like, and I will reply in kind..)

1) earlier this year (before we even knew the K-1 fiance visa existed), he interviewed to get a tourist visa to come to the USA but was denied (as often happens for 20-something brasilians). Could this potentially negatively impact on the K-1 process, and if so, how to 'soften the blow?'

2) He lives in the state of Pernambuco (Recife/Olinda). Will he have his interview at the Consulado Americano in Recife or does it have to be in Rio?

3) If documents in Portuguese need to be translated (ie. his statement of intent, official divorce document), do they have to be done by some sort of 'official' or government 'approved' or 'certified' translator, or can it be anyone who signs an affidavit affirming that they possess complete knowledge of both english and portuguese?

well that will get me started for now!

thanks again and looking forward to getting to know you as I get more and more acquainted with this process... :)

THIS WILL NOT NEGATIVELY AFFECT THE FIANCE(E) VISA.

ALL K1 VISA APPLICANTS HAVE TO BE INTERVIEWED IN RIO.

ANYONE, BUT YOU OR YOUR FIANCE, CAN TRANSLATE THE DOCUMENTS. EVERYTHING SENT TO USCIS HAS TO BE SENT WITH A TRANSLATION

well that will get me started for now!
