Thank you for reaching out the American Citizen Services Unit at the U.S. Consulate General Montreal. Below are resources and information we think will help answer your questions. If you still have more questions or concerns please let us know and we will do our best to assist.

In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and in line with the Canadian government’s call to increase social distancing, the U.S. Embassy and all Consulates General in Canada have suspended all routine services including Passport, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad and Notarial services from March 23rd through May 31st until further notice. For information about Mission Canada’s change in consular operations click here.   Please schedule an appointment  when we have returned to normal routine operations.

A Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) is official evidence of United States citizenship, issued to a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents, who meet the requirements for transmitting citizenship under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).  CRBA applications must be made before the child’s 18th birthday, and we strongly recommend that parents apply for the CRBA as soon as possible after the child’s birth.

Hope this information is helpful.

Best Regards,

American Citizen Services/CB
