Is self-quarantine after arrival required by law?

Anyway, does anyone have a link to the actual law mandating this 14-day self-isolation? All I hear is "you should" but not "you must".

Thank you for all those links. I'm going to look through them. Flying to the DFW area with a direct flight from Frankfurt to DFW. I know that Governor Abbott recently lifted all executive orders related to domestic air travel restrictions, but they didn't cover international travel, which is governed at the federal level anyway. I called CDC yesterday and they couldn't give me an answer either. She started reading out what is already on the CDC webpage, but wasn't able to tell me whether self-isolation is mandated by law.

The fact is that you'd be in a position with a high risk of infecting others. The fact is that they require you to self-quarantine to limit the spread of the virus, so that you don't infect others while you're non-symptomatic. The fact is that you're only here because you're hoping that someone will agree with you so you'd feel like less of a jerk for ignoring this and possibly contributing to the spread of a potentially lethal virus.

Again, if you know of a law mandating self-isolation, please share it with me. I am not here for approval from anyone, as I stated multiple times that I am looking for information, not opinions or discussions. I understand the risks of this virus very well, I'm a physician myself, so no need to be rude or personal. If you want to discuss these things on a scientific level, I'd be happy to. I don't have to agree with every rule or guideline out there as I am in the position to form my own opinion on the matter. That is what I was trained to do after all. Doesn't mean that I am not taking precautions, i.e. wearing a cloth mask in public etc., myself. Nonetheless, I want to ensure that my family and I are abiding by the existing laws.

 

You keep saying "require", though CDC words it as "should". I came to realize that the CDC did in fact "only" recommend it.

I really doubt that you're specialized in anything related to this, because you'd know how these things spread and not make a thread like this one.

 

If you understand the risk, why not just quarantine in the first place? If you are a physician, dealing with patients of any type while being a potential carrier would also violate your oath as a physician.

Not sure why you have this audacity to question people's words with nothing to back up your claim. Anyway, think what you want.

 

We immigrated this past week. To all those, who are wondering about the same thing as I did: There is no mandated self quarantine. One is only asked to self quarantine as much as possible.

In the case of Hawaii, it applies to all inbound travelers (domestic and international). Even returning residents of Hawaii are subject to it and have faced consequences for violating it.

 

Thus, it's state specific. Like you mentioned, many states only list restrictions for certain domestic travelers.
