Yes, that's sort of the point. It's to gauge your reactions. That's why there's no "neutral" position -- it's kind of irritating but the questions are meant to draw out your underlying opinions, even if the responses don't fit perfectly. It's supposed to make you uncomfortable.

This thing has been around forever so I'm sure you've done this same compass at least 50 times by now. It was invented by a person who weighted things with their own subjective scaling. 

 

The end result is.. it's just for fun. There are other tests as well, a similar compass, where you stand on the issues, and what candidate/party you should vote for, they tend to turn out wrong pretty often for me, but that's because I separate personal views from policy and it's impossible to distinguish which they're talking about here. 

 

Also, the clunky nature of the results has it so you can modify the url to give yourself whatever result you want anyways.

I sent him the quiz URL as something "interesting to try," without elaboration.

He sent me his results.

His dot was more than 50% overlapping mine.

He couldn't believe it, either.

I think it's partially accurate, but not remotely enough:

 

 

 

The image had me on top of who I assume is John Locke, with a slight leaning toward another guy that looks a bit like George Carlin. Coincidentally, two people I greatly respect and admire. The bleeding heart libertarian thing is probably where most of the difference is, but I'l contradict myself in pointing out I twice voted for Johnson and he's probably considered a quintessential bleeding heart libertarian. Indeed, his views I felt were more similar to mine, but the biggest differences lie in issues like healthcare, foreign trade, and immigration, which are rather enormous issues, particularly for me. 

 

It's good to see one's views from an outside perspective, but honestly there's not a lot for one to learn especially if they are of an independent mindset.
