Hello everyone,

Our K1 visa expires in late August. The status is issued but it has never been received due to the closure. Does anyone have a template that I can use for requesting an extension due to unforeseen circumstances?  Also, what would the email be that I should send it to?  How soon should I send this request?  It sounds like they may be loosening restrictions but still I want to be proactive and make sure get everything taken care of early and not wait until the last minute.  Thank you so much for your help!

I would wait until the beginning of August.   A lot can change between now and then

YMMV

Visas cannot be extended. it will be limited by the validity period of the medical examination, which is 6 months.

If you are then unable to use it, (after it expires) you can request that they re-issue the visa. This means a new medical, new visa fee, etc. But no new I-129F or anything...just consulate processing.

How about the interview? Is another interview required?  These are unprecedented times though so I hope new rules will apply. So far I haven't heard any news about extensions.

A new visa application will be required. It is up to the CO if they will need a new interview or not, but generally one is required per application.

It's possible the policies will change, but no such changes have been announced or updated in the FAM. Expect that they won't change until you see that they do.

Also expect a new medical if you need a new visa.

Here is an excerpt from the US Embassy in London Site:

Immigrant and fiancé(e) visas cannot be extended. However, if you are unable to travel within the validity period of your visa due to circumstances beyond your control, you can request visa reissuance. Please monitor our website for the latest updates. After normal operations have resumed and your unused visa has expired, please reply to this email at that time to request visa reissuance. We will send you information about how to submit your passport, visa package (if applicable) and a letter explaining why you were unable to travel and requesting visa reissuance. Please note that you will be required to undergo a new medical examination and pay a new visa fee before the visa can be reissued.

I just found out that under GCQ government offices will be open. Praying that on May 15th everything will be back on track.

I doubt they will be letting people leave the country... It will be a long time before they allow people in or out. The US hasn't even cancelled their travel ban.

Philippines is not banned. We should no more by June 1st. I always recommend when leaving comments like this to always have a reference article with the official news attached. Thanks!

I never said Philippines was banned. I'm merely stating that the Philippines will not open up any international travel in or out like it was prior to COVID-19 for a long while. The US hasn't lifted bans from Europe and China, why would Philippines lift theirs?
