Hey guys

I submitted my documents to NVC last month and they approved all my documents however sent me a note saying that I do not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants for this case. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of the interview. For more information, please visit https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p. To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 for a joint sponsor may be submitted.

since my income was only $800 below the poverty line I decided to use my two vehicles as my assets. My question is should I just leave my case as is or should I add a co sponsor? What do you guys suggest?

Thanks 😊

The safest route will be to arrange a joint sponsor and take all

their documentation to the interview. The interviewing officer will make the decision about it .. this way there is no delay ..

Should I just take them to the interview instead of uploading it or should I upload them as well.

No harm in uploading them as well as carrying them. Also .. if you are planning to add your cars as assets you will need to complete a new I864 and take that also

I had previously added my cars when I uploaded my i864. Maybe I have added my cars, that’s why they didn’t completely rejected my i864. It confusing, I feel so lost.

It’s ok. Get a joint sponsor. The required amounts are minimum required .. and IO have freedom to make a decision ..

Two caveats regarding this:

  • You can only choose a secondary vehicle, a primary vehicle will be disallowed under the undue hardship provision.
  • What the secondary vehicle is worth must be 3x the difference.

Correct but that is to meet the absolute minimum.  Not a good place to be.

Agreed - borderline is not a good place to be at this time. A joint sponsor is probably a better way to go.

Vehicles don't make great assets, unless it is a rare 100k plus Ferrari or something. Even then if you don't own them outright, anything you owe is deducted from the value, and to be honest cars lose value so fast, they are really useless. If you own land or property that isn't your primary residence, that would be good assets. Any stocks or bonds can help if you have a decent portfolio, and there is always good old fashioned cash in a bank account that has been there a while, but it still has to be 3 times the difference. Honestly the way they are treating the new public charge rules, you need to be minimum I would say 10k above the minimum. Maybe more depending on where you live. As others have said, a well qualified joint sponsor is what you should be looking for.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

You could also get a part time job - $800/year is a very low amount to reach; you could show you work one extra day per week and it would pad your income nicely.
