Got laid off

Hello Guys

I have gotten laid off from my work and I will like to know if I apply for unemployment benefit, I wanna know if I file for my wife to come to join me, my question is if I claim unemployment benefits, will it affect it?

Filing for unemployment is not a negative factor for immigration.  But being unemployed at the time of the NVC stage the interview could pose an issue.

I was in the same boat but was unemployed waiting for NOA2 until recently. Unemployment will not affect your application, but if you are not employed during the NVC stage, you will need a sponsor. It does not matter if you made $1 million dollars before. They want to know your CURRENT income. I was in the US unemployed since I moved back in January and it was very difficult. Because of the Public Charge Rule, I did not apply for any government assistance such as food stamps. If food stamps are the only means you have to put food on the table, then you need to do what you need to do.
