My mom wants to visit me in the future and use a tourist visa but I can't find any requirements as to how much money she needs to earn or have in her bank account in order for her to be approved. Can someone please explain?

There is no such requirement.

Are you sure? Don't they check things like her marital status, if she had traveled to other countries before plus how much she makes at her job and stuff like that? Don't they have to make sure she will have enough money to travel? Plus I heard that she might need to get a health insurance prior to visiting. Is this all not true? Thank you!

The ask for marital status, job, you can read the application. Of course she needs to be able to fund her visit, why would you apply for a visa if you could not? Visitors need travel insurance, pretty standard thing to buy.

That's what I'm saying too. Obviously you need to fund your visit but what is considered enough for them? Is she supposed to have 5000$ or maybe even above 10000$ for a month or two? From what I read it's different but what do they go off of exactly? What would the minimum amount be?

Evidence of strong ties to the home country and “adequate” financial resources cannot be written as a firm checklist. Just doesn’t work that way. It is possibly easier to define want won’t  be looked on positively rather than the other way around

Close family members living in the US .. especially if they are USC

Lack of regular stable longterm

employment

Lack of owned  property ...

I see. I was hoping there would be a minimum requirement or something like that since a lot of websites write something like you need to have 200$ per each day you stay in the US, but apparently it differs from case to case. Thank you!

That sounds reasonable, obviously some people have much higher standards than others and that could be considered derisory.

Where is your mom coming from? My mom is a chilean citizen and she uses an ESTA Waiver. Some countries do not need a VISA. You should find that first. She comes twice a year and has never been asked about money or how she affords to visit. She is retired. I asked her to get a VISA as soon as the Embassy opens again, so she can stay here for a longer time. I assume if any of those questions arise about how will be she affording her trip, we as a couple will be responsible for all her expenses.

There can't be such requirement, because the amount of money needed depends on where in the US you will be staying and what you are planning to do.

She will be coming from Russia and she needs a visa 100%.

You’re focusing on the wrong thing here... she doesn’t need to show she has $x per day to get a visa. She needs to show reasons she will return to Russia after her visit.

Thank you, I already know about that, the only thing I wasn't sure about was the financial part of this question.

They don’t care nearly as much about that, especially for someone staying with relatives. You are obviously a tie to the US, so she will need to show strong ties/reasons  to return home. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of anyone being denied a tourist visa for not showing enough funds, but plenty denials under 214b.

I see, thank you! Do you know if the fact that she participated in the green card lottery would be counted against her? In the future I want to bring her over to the USA  (if possible) that's why she applied in the past. But for now, I just want her to visit and the best visa for that would be a tourist visa I guess?
