yes I know,  what I was asking is if I will need the letter that my fiance didn't receive from  from the embassy. and if I can start the online steps without it

To reiterate,  you may proceed by following the online steps, no generic instruction letter required

YMMV

will they ask for this letter during the process? I can just do these steps without the letter from the embassy? It says on the site to contact them if i haven't received the letter. I

The medical clinic asks to see the instruction  letter to confirm your LND number. They accept the email/letter the petitioner gets from NVC which also has the LND number. At no other time does the letter get shown. On interview day, there is a confirmation of appointment date/time to show. You print that out yourself when you select your appointment. Many people do their London bit without the embassy letter.

This is the best order to follow. It works.

  1. Submit DS-160.
  2. Gather documents. (for interview as well as documents for medical appointment). You don't want a looming appointment if you hit a hiccup and won't have what you need for the appointment.
  3. Book your medical date by calling the clinic. 020 7486 7822.
  4. Book the courier, pay, and pick an interview date all at the same time on https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv. Select “I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to register or schedule a K visa appointment”, whether you have the letter or not.  Leave 10 calendar days between medical and interview for best results.
  5. Attend your medical.
  6. Attend your interview.

Gather documents step is important. See these 2  lists:

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee-2/required-documents/

http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/us-bring.htm

And do read all the information and FAQs on the embassy website instructions. Don't assume you picked up everything you need to know in the K1 threads. Each embassy does things in their own way.

The London website had that order I gave for a long time. Then they changed the steps and they really make no sense. Some people rush it all through, but I try to emphasize getting your ducks in a row before picking appointments. I have been on this UK forum years and have seen the desperate posts about “My Medical is in two days and my GP surgery can’t give me my things for two weeks”.  It’s less stressful if you are prepared before each step and don’t get bumped out of the work flow and are stuck wondering when they will work you back in after pausing you for lack of preparation.

Get all the shots needed for AOS before your medical so you will be signed off and not have to pay $$$ to another approved doctor in the US. Even if the clinic says you can wait to get them, understand that you will have expense and hassle in the US that can be avoided if you get all that done and signed off at your visa medical.

Hi,

I've tried booking through 'Immigrant' on https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv and it is pretty much a blank page - nothing is there to book.
Is K1 booked through immigrant (green page) or non-immigrant (blue page) on this website?

Thanks!

J

Green page.  K1s are process by the Immigrant Visa Unit so all booking, checking, emailing goes to IV. Your status will show as immigrant. Then as the last thing before the Visa status changes to “Issued”, the status will show as Nonimmigrant. That’s a clue your visa is ready to issue.

Back to problem booking ...what does your status say when you check CEAC? Does it say “Ready”?

Thanks Wuozopo! Yep, it has said ready for a while. Managed to book in August eventually :) No sure what fixed it, I think clicking 'Add Group' did it for anyone else struggling.

Do you have K2 kids to add to the interview? How many? Not sure I understand “add group” because I can’t log into the actual booking site since nothing pending for me now. Maybe explain that for others in a little more detail.

No K2 kids. So I logged in, and it just had my email address showing. Then I think I clicked add group and it then requested ds-160 details etc. Before then, it was a continuous loop of logging in and not getting anywhere.

Oof was August the closest appointment? That sounds like July immigrant appointments are already gone (not sure if DCF/K-1/CR-1 all take up the same slots).
