(CNN) - A security guard at a Family Dollar store in Flint, Michigan, was shot and killed after telling a customer to wear a state-mandated face mask, police said.

You couldn’t pay me enough to transit through Flint, let alone live there. I feel sorry for the man killed, however, where in the world is there need for a security guard  in a family dollar store. This is not normal middle-america

Theres areas here that have security at Ross stores. It's weird because next door is like perfectly nice sporting goods and pet supply stores without security guards.

I used to work in Flint for many years.  Like many other medium or large cities, there are areas I would not venture into even in the daytime.

Having a security guard at even a dollar store is not uncommon here. And now with all the new measures in place, young workers are becoming the 'security staff' that you encounter right as you walk in. They request you sanitize your hands, may sanitize your cart for you, control the crowd size, and ask about masks. Having someone behave like this is not surprising... real crazies out there. One of the reasons why an Oklahoma town changed their mask policy because store staff reported so many death threats. Michigan always seems to kick it up a notch...
