Five days after reopening, South Beach park closes as crowds defy face mask order

After busy crowds — many not wearing face masks — packed the popular South Pointe Park over the weekend, the city of Miami Beach announced Monday that it has shut down the park just five days after it reopened under eased coronavirus restrictions.

County parks reopened throughout Miami-Dade on Wednesday more than six weeks after Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez closed them to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has infected more people in the county than anywhere else in Florida. Miami Beach joined the county, opening city parks.

Gimenez reopened parks and marinas under strict rules, including the use of masks except when parkgoers are exercising.

Wearing a mask at the beach results in a weird tan line.

Tired of all the silliness,  we decided to take a week off and go somewhere far away from the goofy restrictions in Miami.  Plenty of fun in the sun, beaches,  sailing,  and of course a good amount of tummy sanitizer.

Good for you to get away.  We all need a break from this.

Last Saturday night we had a party at our house with a large group of our (mostly) Russian speaking friends.  Cooked out lamb and chicken on the grill.  Everyone brought their special dish, and of course there was plenty to drink.  Almost everyone went in the pool which was a perfect 88 degree.  I joked we were well over the "10 person maximum" for a gathering and several people would have to go home LOL.

Only down side was that I was feeling a little rough on Sunday. 🤪

But it's ok to congregate indoors at grocery, lumber, feed, discount, etc. stores.  The hypocrisy and silliness screams loudly.

Agree 100 percent.  In Ga was ok to have 100 people in Lowes but 5 people in a hair salon was banned. Made no sense whatsoever. We really didn't have a shuy.

Everyone cant stay home. We will be in the stone age before long. So smart thing is people like me stay home non at risk people carry on

I don't really understand why you need a mask at the beach as long as you're keeping your distance from others.

Masks should only really be a must in closed areas, where close contacts happen(no, the grocery store is not one of those). For example I can easily see how in the future, in order to allow broadway and movie theatres, sport/concert venues etc to operate, there will be an empty seat between people who are not related, and they will be required to wear a mask. I believe the same will likely be done in planes(well, overbooking just got worse). The beach? Likely unnecessary.
