Hello! My husband is the us citizen and he s gonna be the sponsor. We are wondering if his step-dad can be the co-sponsor so they can combine their income(they live in the same house). They dont have an adoption certificate and the only proof of their relationship is his mom's marriage certificate. My question is can his stepdad be a co-sponsor not a joint-sponsor? And if he can what documents does he need?

Thank you!

Yes, his stepfather can be a cosponsor.

Also, for clarification, immigration does not "combine" the income of the sponsor and cosponsor. The review the financials of each individually and make an assessment based on the totality of their circumstances and risks.

Thanks! Do you know what documents he needs? Or its the same as the main sponsor. I know he would have to fill out i-864A as a cosponsor

Please start by becoming and A-student of the I-864 instructions.

Your husband will be the primary sponsor and provide an I-864 and applicable supporting documents, even if he had zero income.

Stepfather can act as "the only joint sponsor".  Stepfather's wife, will provide an I-864a as joint tax filing spouse of joint sponsor, even if SHE has zero income.

So the stepfather has to provide the i-864 not i-864A?

Yes, because there is no such thing as a "cosponsor" and he is going to be a "Joint Sponsor".  Try studying those actual instructions.   REALLY!
