NVC approved, waiting to be transferred to embassy

Hi all,

This is my first post on VJ and just want to start by saying thanks to all the mods and regular posters, it really is a great service you provide for everyone going through this process.

Anyway, onto my question. As the title suggests, NVC have approved my documents (March 19th) and now I am waiting to have my interview scheduled in London. Since being approved however, I have noticed that, on my CEAC profile, my application is still listened as being at NVC rather than at the embassy or even in transit and I was just wondering if this is something I should follow up on? Given the disruption they’re no doubt experiencing, I don’t want take up their time unnecessarily but neither do I want my application languishing any longer than is necessary.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Did you file online or by post? We filed online, and i assume that everything is sent electronically as we received our welcome letter from NVC the day after approval! However, if you filed by post I imagine it may take a lot longer as the embassies are closed/ skeleton staff.

We filed electronically as well so yes, it would seem as though these things would be relatively prompt, at least under normal circumstances. Given the timing of our approval and having it coincide with the lockdown, my fear (perhaps unfounded) is that our application might “fall through the cracks” as it’s passed from one body to the next, each of which will be working with reduced numbers of staff. Providing there isn’t any clarification on here, I think I will call NVC tomorrow to get a lay of the land and I’ll be sure to report back to you.

Your case may still be with the NVC despite being documentary qualified.
You will get an email from the NVC letting you know that in interview has been scheduled with your interview details.

"The National Visa Center (NVC) completed its processing of your immigrant visa application and forwarded it to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General, where an immigrant visa interview has been scheduled. Appointment information is located at the bottom of this email."

Note that some embassies/consulates take months to get the interview date. Speaking from experience waiting for an interview date for the Montreal, Canada location. It took about 6 months to get my interview date.
You should check how long it takes for the London consulate to schedule interviews. And with the pandemic - a lot of consulates are currently not scheduling any interviews...

thanks for the reply. Yes, I had assumed it was probably a case of simply waiting it out however I just wanted to confirm that everything was on track. I realise that there is a significant variation in wait times for different embassies. Fortunately, judging by the timelines I’ve seen posted here, it appears to be approximately two months from DQ from NVC until interviews in London. That of course, was prior to the shutdown so hopefully once everything is back up and running again, there won’t be too much disruption. Given the waits some people have had to endure, it really isn’t too bad at all

Im guessing they are not interviewing anyone in Canada right now? I imagine it will be even slower once the COVID-19 situation dies down and interviews are allowed again.

Wow, likely looking at 7-9 months of wait time on interviews once this is over! I am hoping the offices can open up end of May (fingers crossed)

Hi @Gary137 - I just wanted to check in and see if you received your interview date and how long it took after NVC approved your documents? My partner just had his documents approved last week and now he is waiting for interview appointment details for the London embassy. It'd be great to hear how your journey continued and how long it took to get the appointment date. Thanks!

Hi, happy to oblige however, I’m not sure how much it will help given the fact I actually applied for and was granted an expedited interview. I sent the request for an expedite on the 3rd July which was accepted 2 weeks later.  After that, I was able to book an interview for the 17th August which I attended however, due a missing document, I was given a temporary 221(g) refusal that will be rectified (hopefully) once they receive and consider this document. Im my case, it’s not a document I can actually get hold of so I’ve had to explain my situation, with evidence and hope they understand. I sent all that last week so now, once again, its just a case of waiting around in the dark. I hope the remainder of your case goes a little smoother!

A question. I have read on this forum that many times the CO asks for docs to be uploaded on CEAC at the interview and put on AP.. is it a good idea to upload the current year docs like AOS/Tax transcript/Income etc to CEAC before the interview and after DQ'd? Will this speed up the process/(CO will have everything already at the interview)...?
