Once you requested the file and NRC received your request, did they actually sent YOU  a copy of your whole file?  Do you think that they then also send it to USCIS and this is why your interview got scheduled? Just trying to understand how this could have helped to get your case moving.

You submit the request through USCIS which then receives the file and makes it available to you on your online account. By doing this, you trigger A-file (which is holding your case back) to be sent to USCIS which is what you need for them to be able to schedule your interview.

Thanks, that makes sense. I will try it.

Hi,

I opened FOIA request based on your inputs. Is your FOIA Status in Step 5 ?

Mine is still in Step 3. It stayed in step 1 for around 10 days before it moved to step 2 and then another 7-10 days before it moved to step 3. It's been in step 3 for the past couple of weeks but I got my interview scheduled roughly 10 days after it reached step 3.

Step 3 is when they receive your A-file and that's when they're able to move forward with your N-400 application.

Thanks for the response. I'll respond back how it goes with my case.

Where can I get the PIN number to register my case to check for status of FOIA request? I have the Request ID#.

Thanks.

You don't really need the PIN. You should be able to track the status of your request online through your account where you submitted the request.

March 2020 filer here.

Thanks for the idea for filing of the FOIA request - just did on Fri. I found it challenging afterwards to find the page with the status check - it always was redirecting me to my n-400 status. Finally after some time - found the page, so sharing it in case someone has been struggling with that as well: https://first.uscis.gov/#

Thanks a lot for the link. I was struggling to find it as well. Now I will bookmark this page and check the status regularly.

Thank you for the information! I just submitted mine this morning!

I had the most uncomfortable experience at the Chicago immigration the other day (this is the third time I have come into the US with my I551 stamp and no issues the other times in my hometown of Atlanta).

I was pulled into secondary due to what they told me was a possible "fraudulent stamp",  it took 30 minutes for them to "check" my status (even tho I carried my receipt notices with me).  Anyway, I cannot wait to be done with all this.  It has now been 19 months since I filed.  Fingers crossed this gets the ball rolling.

Was able to get interview/oath ceremony in Charlotte NC on Nov. 29!

I originally applied in NJ. I had my biometrics done in October and original interview scheduled on June 18 (which ended up being a federal holiday), so it was rescheduled to August in Newark, even though I had changed my address (I moved to NC) before the appointment notice was sent. Ended up taking a flight to Newark, only to be told that they couldn't give me citizenship since I was not under their jurisdiction anymore and had to transfer the case to the Charlotte office! The Newark office only administered the test and sent my results to Charlotte. 😡

But finally glad the nightmare is over!
