We filed my husband’s N-400 the old-fashioned paper route on May 16. I received a confirmation text from USCIS yesterday that his application was received and assigned case number IOE0909xxxxxx. I looked up IOE and it’s meant for e-filers. Anyone else run into this who has filed by paper mail?

That's normal for petitions that CAN be filed online, even if you chose not to file online.

After filing N400 online, there's a receipt of payment for $725 in the account. Is the mailed hardcopy version of this what is known as the NOA1?

The email is just a payment confirmation.

Within 72 hours you'll be able to see your receipt notice (form i-797c, also known as NOA1) under the documents tab on your online account.

This very same receipt notice will also be mailed to you, you'll receive it about a week later.

Hmm, that never happened for me. I filed around 4/23 and the receipt came the next day, but never had anything else posted online

That's what I said. The receipt notice is the only thing you get on your account until you receive the biometrics appointment.

Yep, I am an early May filer and I still  haven't received any updates on my biometrics appointment. Honestly, I don't expect to hear anything before June 5th when hopefully USCIS will start opening their local offices for in-person services.

Yes, that's how it is for all of us, haven't  seen anybody in April or May saying they received a biometrics appt yet.

I have had 3 biometrics appointments this far in my immigration journey, and the bio letters seem to arrive a little less than 2 weeks from the actual appointment date. Sometimes only 1 week.

I'm thinking that there's a lot of March filers, and possibly even February filers that had their bio appointments cancelled, and they will most likely all get appointments before us May filers. So my guess is that we still have a few more weeks to go.

yup, I feel they'll take a few weeks to take care of all the biometrics backlog - assuming they were already performing biometrics at full capacity before the pandemic hit (so no easy way for them to speed these up with several months of backlog).

I'm curious though - if background checks are performed after biometrics or that is something that begins soon after filing.  I'd assume the latter since they already have enough info with the submitted info to carry on whatever checks they need to.

Because USCIS says staff is working away from public, I'm hoping overall there won't be much of a delay by the covid situation. Also, I remember seeing a news story how file submissions were down and USCIS revenue took a toll - Not sure if that'll affect the overall processing speed for us May Filers.
