I just got my appointment for Dec 16th, I am applying under 3 years as spouse of American Citizen, the letter said due to Covid-19 only certain people were permitted to come with you, and spouse wasn't mentioned. Does my husband need to come to interview? Or has this been waived with covid?

Correct, your spouse is not coming with you.

I put in a service request on 10/28 for my biometrics (just seeing if I could get some movement) and I received this today (In my inbox online);

So, yeah!  It's all up to the ASC center and due to Covid there are severe restrictions (In my area anyway) still on the amount of people allowed in the offices and all appointment only.  At least I know it's been submitted for a Bio Apt...may not help anyone but figured hearing something is better than nothing these days.

Dear STEPHANIE

Thank you for your inquiry dated October 28, 2020.

Requesting information about your N-400, Application for Naturalization:
Your case is awaiting the required biometrics submittal, and is currently in suspense until you complete this process. Your application information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for biometrics at their local Application Support Center (ASC). Biometrics appointments are scheduled as slots become available at the ASC. Once you have been scheduled for an appointment, you will receive an ASC Appointment Notice to appear at a certain date and time at your local ASC. You must take the ASC Appointment Notice and photo ID to your appointment.
Once you have been scheduled, you may view and print a copy of your USCIS ASC Appointment Notice within your USCIS online filing system account. After you log in to your USCIS online filing system account, access the Home Tab to find the "Documents" field to view or print your official appointment notice from USCIS.

This makes process bit confusing. The biometrics appointment comes from NBC, so until then our biometrics is completed and reviewed our case won’t be transferred to local office?? That means no one looked at our application/evidences until it is forwarded to local office?

I think that the background check starts immediately after submittal of application except for part related to fingerprints. NBC cannot make appointments at local ASC because it does not manage appointments scheduling at every ASC. It is reasonable that ASCs receive information from NBC and do scheduling according to each ASC capacity.

I think so as well!  Because NBC can't govern the local ASC offices appointments as they all have different work loads and operating procedures as it relates to each state (especially while we are in a pandemic still).

Once it's done in the local ASC its sent back as that step is processed and on to the next.

At least I know it's been sent for scheduling so thats something anyway.

Today I completed the citizenship interview and took the oath (in Tucson, AZ). I'm a U.S. citizen!! Below I describe my experience, and hopefully some might find it useful.

I arrived 30 minutes before my appointment time, but was allowed in only 20 minutes before that time. I passed airport-like security, checked in with my GC and interview letter, and was told to wait in a seating area. There were only 4-5 people waiting. After about 20 minutes my interviewer called my name. She was very nice and laid back. She took me to an office where she sat across from me behind a plexiglass, and we both had masks on throughout the interview.

The interview lasted about 25 minutes, but that was mainly because the system was slow. She started with verifying my name, address, marital status, job, etc. She asked me how many times have I been abroad, and commented that I have quite a few visits abroad (FYI - I had about a dozen trips abroad, the longest was 43 days. My TOTAL number of days abroad is less than 170 days). I explained that some of the trips were for work, and anyway I like traveling, as you only live once. She smiled and said she agrees with me. After the yes/no questions she moved on to the civics test:

What was the name of the war between the North and the South?
Why did the colonists fight the British?
In what month do we vote for President?
What is the political party of the President?
Name one branch of the government.
Where is the Statue of Liberty?

She asked me to read a sentence and write one on the tablet. They're both super easy.

Afterward she typed on the computer, showed me the changes I reported about the application (a new side gig for a job), and I signed the form on the tablet. She printed out a form that said I was recommended for approval. I asked her if she can guesstimate when my oath will take place. She answered that they'll try to do it now, but the system is slow. She walked me to a nearby hall which had 6 chairs, a podium, the flag, etc. I waited there for more than 30 minutes, and individual applicants dropped in and took the oath. One at the time... Finally the names of another applicant and mine were called, and a USCIS officer took our GC, told us to read carefully our certificates to make sure there are no mistakes, and did the oath. As no family members are allowed in the building, he took a couple of pictures and that's it!

The whole thing took over 90 minutes. I brought 4 folders with documents with me - she only asked for my GC and DL.

The whole process (from application to oath) was completed in 5.5 months - during a pandemic, furloughs, and election year this is nearly a miracle. I'm so relieved to be done with it!

Good luck everyone!!

Ugh I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is a script they utilize. Practically anyone and everyone, from  Feb 2020 on, who has no movement gets the same generic response. the ASC can  sit on the biometrics indefinitely-a year, two years, a decade or more.

They get so  many people asking them this question that they've decided to program a script. I got this same script thrice-one in Aug, one in Sept, one in Oct. So's Representative contacted USCIS on their behalf and got the exact same script.

they just plug in your name,, the rest is identical.

It's a contractor "working from home"  going through email after email and  hitting a few buttons to send the same script over and over again.

Well, I wasn't expecting a handwritten note back.   Also this is the third time I have contacted them via messaging and received different responses each time. I am well aware it's  generated email but at least it's something.

Thanks for being so positive.

Biometrics reuse letter: Aug 07

Interview scheduled notice: Nov 02

Filed online, field office Indianapolis.

Hey there! Congratulations on all the progress that you've made on your case.

I applied for N400 in March of this year at the Indianapolis office. I still haven't even received an appointment for biometrics. Is there something I can do to speed up the process?

I logged in to my account to check the status after reading your post. It’s showing same message for me too! Probably some system issue. I will not worry and check back later. I filed on May 3rd.
