Had the weirdest experience trying to renew my employment authorization which expires in April 2022. I sent in my I-765 renewal form earlier this week, it was delivered on Wednesday, accepted on Wednesday, and approved today ("Card is being produced"). Original I-765 took 11 months, this one took 3 days ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Of course the already-21-month-wait for the adjustment of status application continues... but now at least I don't have to worry until February 2023 about having to stop working.

Timeline for Adjustment of Status:

  • May 4, 2020 (0 days) - 'Application received' (I-485, I-765)
  • Feb 8, 2021 (9 months, 3 days!) - 'Fingerprints taken', one day after biometrics appointment
  • Apr 13, 2021 (11 months, 8 days!) - 'New card is being produced' for I-765, employment authorization
  • Apr 17, 2021 (11 months, 12 days) - Original EAD delivered by USPS
  • Mar 29, 2022 (1 year, 10 months, 25 days!) - Case 'Ready to be scheduled for an interview'
  • Jan 18, 2023 (2 years, 8 months, 14 days!) - Received RFE for I-693 + evidence of marriage (I-751?)
  • May 2, 2023 (2 years, 11 months, 28 days!) - I-485 application approved!
  • May 9, 2023 (3 years, 5 days; or 36 months, 5 days; or 1100 days!!!) - 10-year permanent resident card delivered!

Timeline for EAD renewal:

  • Feb 23, 2022 (0 days) - 'Application received' (I-765)
  • Feb 25, 2022 (2 days!) - 'Card is being produced' for I-765
  • Mar 4, 2022 (9 days 🤯) - renewed EAD delivered by USPS

Timeline for travel authorization:

  • Oct 7, 2022 (0 days) - 'Application received' (I-131)
  • Dec 2, 2022 (56 days) - 'Fingerprints taken'
  • Dec 6, 2022 (60 days) - Advance Parole Document was produced

Wow that's awesome. Congrats.

For my renewal they approved a 2 year combo card. Is yours a 1 year still? I'm feeling indifferent with green card or combo card now since both allow me to do the same thing. Well of course hope they can approve the green card within the next 2 years lol

We applied for my husbands EAD Renewal on 4/21/21 it expired 9/26/21 we got the extension which expires in 3 weeks. I had put in so many inquiries and nothing helped get it approved put in expedite never heard back.

well I finally reached out to our congressman on 2/18 got a call from their office on 2/22/22 that they put in a inquiry with Uscis for us. On 2/26/22 his i765 was approved and card being produced. It is the 2 year saw the approval letter in our documents.

what a stressful wait. We are expecting our 3rd child and I have to have surgery in 3 weeks so I won’t be able to work for atleast 8 which is why we had been trying to make sure it was taken care of before then.

good luck to everyone still waiting.

hopefully we all can get our interviews soon!

Hi. Did anyone had their interview yet in Sacramento, CA?

Hi. I am still waiting for my interview in Sacramento, CA. Filed in March 2020 and "ready to schedule an interview" since August 2020.

I was able to renew my EAD and AP and they are valid until December 2023 so if I have to wait another 6-12 months that's just how it is.

Concurrent I-485/I-130/I-765/I-131 Filing (married to USC spouse):

2/23/2020: Sent in application via FedEx (following rules before new Public Charge rule)

2/25/2020: Arrived in Chicago, IL
3/13/2020: Packaged received in return and rejected due to "outdated forms"
3/24/2020: Refiled application with new forms including I-944
3/25/2020: Arrived in Chicago, IL (received by Harper)

4/13/2020: Received 4 late-night texts with case numbers
4/14/2020: Application fee withdrawn from my bank account

4/17/2020: Received hard copies of Receipt NOAs (I-797Cs)
4/17/2020: Requested EAD expedite
4/20/2020: EAD expedite request denied: Case in "in suspense or on hold until we receive your biometrics" +  did not provide evidence of "extreme emergent need"
8/1/2020: Received biometrics appointment notice (for I-485 and I-765)
8/11/2020: Biometrics appointment at the ASC in Sacramento, CA

8/12/2020: Online case status for I-485 and I-765 updated to "fingerprints related to ... have been applied to your case"

8/17/2020: Online case status for I-131 updated to "fingerprints related to ... have been applied to your case"

8/18/2020: Online case status for I-485 updated to "we are ready to schedule your ... for an interview"

9/4/2020: Online case status for I-765 updated to "New card is being produced"

9/8/2020: Online case status for I-765 updated to "Case was approved"

9/8/2020: Online case status for I-131 updated to "Case was approved"
9/10/2020: Online case status for I-765 updated to "Card was mailed to me"

9/12/2020: Received I-797 Notice of Action (approval notice) for I-765 and I-131
9/14/2020: Received my combo EAD card (work authorization and advanced parole)
8/13/2021: Filed renewal application for both I-131 and I-765
11/9/2021: Filed expedite request for both I-131 due to sick father in Norway
12/15/2021: Received email from USCIS for supportive documents (after multiple calls)
12/17/2021: Sent in supportive documents (letter from doctor, hospital appointment notices ++)
12/22/2021: Status changed to "card being produced" (letter on MyUSCIS.com confirms this will be a combo card)

We reached out to our congressman about AOS and EAD cases, they responded that they can't help at this point as both cases are still within under the posted normal processing times. So we will have to wait for one more month before we can ask them to help with our EAD ... assuming that the processing time doesn't change come April. 😔

Yeah, I thought it was too good to be true but I did indeed get my new 2-year EAD, 9 days after sending in my application 🤯

So now I don't have to worry about having to stop working again for the next two years, but hopefully this doesn't mean the permanent residency will take another two years lol.

Hi Everyone,

My case has been out of time and made service request, also I reached out the congressman. This is the disappointing template response from USCIS to the congressman:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding this constituent’s immigration matter.  U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) records confirm that your constituent’s case is pending at this time.  USCIS is committed to adjudicating immigration benefits in a timely and efficient manner.  While the processing steps for most applications or petitions are completed quickly, a small percentage of cases involve unresolved issues that may result in adjudication delays.

We are unable to determine at this time when the review process for the application will be completed but we assure you that we are striving to resolve these issues as soon as possible.  Once further action is taken, your constituent will be notified at their address of record.  We hope the information provided is helpful.  If we may be of assistance in the future, please let us know"

I'm honestly speechless, why our case must be like this while other applicants got their GC very long time ago.

Which service center are you at? I'm at San Jose and will be out of normal processing time in about a month (assuming that the processing time doesn't change on April 1st).

I got the exact same response from my congressman as well.

Feb:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding this constituent’s immigration matter. This case is awaiting biometrics submittal, and is currently in suspense until the applicant completes this process. The applicant’s biometrics appointment has been scheduled at their local Application Support Center (ASC) on 3/7/2022 at 1:00PM. A copy of the ASC Appointment Notice is attached, and has been mailed to the applicant, which they should have already received or will receive within 7 to 10 days.

Mar 9 after biometric appointment:

Same response as yours above

LOL

LOL

Now I'm wondering if we will get the same response again when we file for case outside of normal processing time next month. Does waiting for Fingerprint results mean that the case is still at NBC? Or is it with the local office at that point?
