Answer is depends ... A K-1 is work authorized for the first 90 days and can work during this period of time. After that then it is best to read up on applying for adjustment of status and work authorization.

Also A K-1 can apply for and get SSN within 75 days of arrival in the USA, most employers will want SSN for their records when hiring a person.

Note: even though K-1 is "work authorized" for the 90 days after entry, many employers don't understand this and will insist on EAD. Few POEs stamp passport with a temp EAD stamp as a courtesy, JFK is one of them.
