Hello all- I had a question regarding my fiancée who is from Canada and has an approved K1 visa. The interview was in late January in Montreal and her visa is set to expire mid-July. Has anyone else asked for an extension beyond the 6 months of the approved visa? I don't mind paying extra fees so long as we don't have to go back to Montreal, we'd just like an additional 3 months to ensure everything goes smoothly with the COVID-19 pandemic going on now.

I have been unable to complete and furnish the condo we will be living in and we know there is a lot of uncertainty at the border. Plus we'd prefer to drive her and her stuff, and right now it seems like people are only flying in, which is high risk with getting sick.

Please advise if anyone has gone through an extension for other reasons not related to COVID, or if anyone is applying for one now.

Thank you!

Once issued, visa expiration dates cannot be extended.  Consulates can, at their discretion, re-issue expired visas if the holder was unable to travel.  This would require a new medical, fees, and other documents requested by the consulate.  You should contact the consulate if the visa expires prior to travel.

Thank you!

Even if it was possible,  nobody could get it because consulates are closed for normal visa processing
