Hi all,

On page 6 of the I-944 form, in the Your Household’s Assets and Resources section it asks you to "Provide the amount of assets and resources available to you and your household members". Of course this has to be in dollars, my wife will be including her savings & stocks etc.

For me, I plan on including my savings in my UK checking account and my UK pension savings.

I was wondering if anyone has a particular website they used to convert into dollars? Should I include evidence of the website  (and time/date etc) from which I converted my cash savings from pounds into dollars?

Many Thanks

the above link is to the official exchange rate used for treasury reporting in overseas financial interests. In the absence of any specific instructions on the I994 form,  it may be worth using the list recent published exchange rate in your calculations.

Just to mention...depending on who your pension is with, you may find it difficult to actually get the money transferred over, if that's what you're planning to do.

I was really pleased as I was with Fidelity, who also operate in the US and when I spoke with them, they told me it can be transferred...however, when I contacted them to discuss further, I was advised that the IRS would need to write Fidelity a letter, saying they give permission for my pension savings to be brought into the US 😩...and when I asked how easy that is to achieve, I was advised that they'd never experienced anyone that had managed it 😔.

I still plan to try, once I'm working, but am expecting that I'll have to wait a few decades to claim it 😔.
