building credit with little UK credit history

hey, so I have recently moved to the US from the UK and as I have just adjusted status I am awaiting my SSN etc. In the UK, I don't have much credit history. I checked today and it is 360/700, I don't have any missed payments or anything, I think it is just due to the fact that I don't have a credit card or anything and the only things I've paid for is rent, phone contract and internet contract unfortunately. I am 23 for reference.

I saw Nova credit can be used to transfer credit history but I assume this wouldn't work for me because I don't have a loan or credit card and my history isn't that great either. I know all banks in the US would require a SSN so I'm not sure if I can do anything to build my credit before that and I assume even then I wouldn't be able to build credit either because I wouldn't be accepted for a credit card?

I'm just really confused and worried as I want to try build credit asap as I know how important it is here. I also considered opening  a credit card now in the UK so I can start to build credit there then transfer but as I'm not current;y living there I wouldn't want to confuse or mess things up further

I hope this all makes sense, thanks in advance for any advice!

Just try to find a place in the US that will give you a credit card when you get a SSN. There are secured credit cards and such. My first card came from store. We were buying a TV and the cashier said “Would you like to apply for a credit card? It only takes 5 minutes.” My wife said Go for it kinda laughing because I was unemployed.  Surprise! I was approved for $500 limit. It was a start.   Also I was added as a user to 3 of my wife’s major credit cards and that credit was reported in my name as well as hers. If your spouse has a good rating, your will build off that.
