Correct.  USCIS doesn't have access to petitioner's accounts unless you provide it to them.  However,  USCIS is not involved in the public charge decision in visa cases.  Consular Officers do that.  Debts are not asked about but they want to know where the money came from and how long it has been there, so it gets documented with multiple statements.

You are correct with the exception of AOS packages which I was assuming the hijack post was referring to?

To the above most recent posts, very generous of you to spend time.

Regarding the “tricky” reference, have heard other numbers besides 3X sometimes invoked as the threshold. In the remarks to my congressman (fantastic responsiveness) he was also given general references- they where not specific. A lawyer with 35 years in immigration also said their is no certainty 3X or 5x. Every case rightfully unique. All of that I define as tricky.

Villanelle your ability to synthesize information so clearly is the best ever. And pushbrk a deserved reality check. A stronger knowledge base.

I feel the lesson is to become more grounded in objective facts and the excellent explanation of liquidity as it relates to my issue. 🙏🏻

The different numbers you heard are accurate.  Immigrant’s assets:  5X  Spouse:  3X  Other categories:  5X  You asked about spouse and that is why 3X was provided.

Confusing post.  When sponsoring spouse of US Citizen 3X.  For all other immigrant categories it's 5X.  The OP does not have to rely on hearing this or that or reading this or that.  They can read this in the actual form instructions.

The OP needs and received one number.

3X

The referenced post was simply a guess as to why OP reported hearing different ratio requirements.

OP was previously directed to the form instructions.

The wording in the post I quoted was confusing.  Perhaps a typo.

I was going through guesses really as to what was read or communicated other than the 3X but that post was the sum total of what I’ve read under different filing categories and circumstances.
I could have very well missed one.

I think what you typed does not match what you meant to say.  I think that, because what you typed is not what you know to be true.  Perhaps read it again.

Sponsor’s assets:  Spouse 3X

Intending immigrant’s assets 5X

All other categories:  5X

That’s what I typed and that’s what I believe this says.  Applicant’s assets explained under section “can the applicant count their assets”

Other categories I missed:  Orphan minor:  1X, these are rare and don’t apply

Though we provided bank account information I am unaware of any instance where USCIS had access to them.  They are well within their rights to ask for the source of any asset you declare and have that file wait patiently in a folder until that evidence is provided.

It was sarcasm
