My husband just realized that his 24 months extension had ended July 2022. (24 months extension from the expiration date on green card)

He wants to travel this year but how can he get another extension?

Update on his case:

December 2020 - Biometrics done

March 2021 - schedule the interview

January 2022 - 24 months extension notice

So how do we get through the bots at the call center? Schedule an infopass??

He needs to make the Infopass appointment to get an extension stamp on his passport. This is what I did, although I hadn't quite reached expiry at that point.

This shows how to defeat USCIS's frustrating call system and worked for me last year: https://www.stilt.com/blog/2020/07/how-do-i-speak-to-a-live-person-at-uscis/

Yes, call and request an infopass appointment to get the ADIT stamp which I believe is good for one year. This can still be a slow process though. You can search the forum to see people's recent attempts to obtain the stamp.

Also he might get a new extension letter in the near future. Starting tomorrow, new extension letters will be good for 48 months, and USCIS is supposed to send out new letters to people who already filed and still have ROC pending.

@beloved_dingo The GC may be taken away when getting ADIT (I-551) stamp. In that case the extension letter would be useless.

Possible, but if the extension letter is received before the infopass appointment occurs, the ADIT stamp becomes irrelevant.

Yeah I just read the USCIS website about 48 months extension starting tomorrow.

Guess call them tomorrow to schedule an infopass.

It has been a long waiting time PATIENTLY.

USCIS sent us a letter for RFE since it has been several years since we submitted the petition. They are requesting updated evidence.

More paperwork to send them!

By the way, we also received the 48 months extension notice. Yay

You have waited 7 years?? That’s so crazy.

I thought @TheAkazs is a 2020 I-751 filer? What do you mean by 7 years? Entire journey outside of ROC? That's normal.

Read what they wrote “USCIS sent us a letter for RFE since it has been several years since we submitted the petition” I assume given this is posted on a 751 forum it would refer to them having but submitted the 751 7 years ago.

But even if not what they meant, that’s over 4 years they have been waiting during the shorter processing times, which is also extremely bad. And far from normal.

Several is not the same as seven? Also it hasn't been 4 years since 2020? Maybe 3 - 3.5 max if they filed in Jan 2020. Considering this thread is for May 2020 filers, I assume it's been exactly 3 years since they filed or slightly under.

It's a long time for sure, but they're not alone. There are 2019 filers who only got I-751 and N-400 approved in 2023.

Yes, we submitted i-751 in May 2020.

That's what the letter from USCIS said "As it has been several years since you have submitted this petition, we are requesting updated evidence of your relationship in order to assist this adjudication...."

I was thinking how funny USCIS wrote "SEVERAL YEARS" when we only sent it in 2020 of May.

Again, we are submitting the updated information this month May! LOL

To be fair, 3 years does qualify as "several".

Ridiculous that you have to respond to an RFE just because USCIS is taking their sweet time to approve your petition though. However, it is fairly common to get an approval not long after (properly) responding to an RFE so hopefully this means you'll be done with ROC soon!
