If this has merit, then using Covid19 as an excuse to pass previously unsupportable positions on immigration is just wrong.

No one here has direct knowledge of DOS/USCIS workflow matters.  Interviews are still on hold and I would expect that backlog will take months to resolve.

Not if the intention is to slow down immigration to a halt.

 

Same with the Schengen-ban. I know that there's a similar rule for entry into the Schengen-zone, but consulates are using it as a reason not to process visa applications. It wouldn't surprise me if that was extended indefinitely as well.
