485/Marriage Certificate question

Hey all,

We are applying for our AOS and wondering for the marriage certificate, did people send in a copy of their MC or did they send in a certified document? It says on the USCIS website a copy is fine but some people said on here to do an actual certified because some people got RFE's.

Interested to hear peoples experiences.

Thanks,

Caitlin

Photocopy.of the certified document.

Never showed original to USCIS. No interviews for AOS or Removing Conditions.

Took to citizenship interview but she wasn’t bothered to see anything on the list of what to bring.

Caitlin, sometimes I think people don’t even understand their RFEs. Just make sure the document you photocopy clearly shows some kind of certification from the county where it is registered.. They will be different depending on location. Mine is embossed with the county seal and has a date and signature of when they certified it. Others may have a stamp. Usually when you get a certified copy, they photocopy what they have in the record book and stamp or put a seal on it and date/sign that is is a true copy from the records of “xyz”county. The USCIS is looking to see that your marriage has been registered at the county.

Does it say it is registered in Cook County and maybe has the county clerk’s signature? Just checking that after your officiant signed it and you turned it in to the county and they then gave you a copy with their certification that it was recorded.

When we got it we asked to pay more for a certified copy. It has two seals, says certification of vital records, "this is to certify that this is a true and correct abstract from the office record filed with the office of the cook county clerk" has her signature, has "this copy is not valid unless displaying embossed seals of cook country and country clerk signature" (which it does) and also states "were united in marriage in the country of cook, and state of illinois in a civil ceremony by"
