I am not advocating for anyone. If my toilet breaks I call a plumber. Doesn't mean they know more than a doctor, but they do know more about that particular subject. That is what they do. An epidemiologist has a masters degree and studies the transmission of diseases through populations. Just a simple fact. They just know more about that particular topic than a physician.

So in this case we should rely on ivory tower types?  Don’t these research folks rely on data that comes from the people on the ground as well as researching other studies?

You asked me for reasons why I don't believe these particular guys and I gave them to you. I know where they are BS'ing and if they persist, they are going to get called on it. Their opinion is based on running Covid-19 tests on a patient group that presents with milder symptoms. That information is helpful in the overall picture, but it's not going to drive policy on it's own.

You can listen to who you want. I'm not sure why anyone would dismiss epidemiologists as "ivory tower types" but take the words of 2 urgent care doctors at face value. However, it's not my problem if you want do that.

So I read the bakersfield.com article, and what stood out was that:

a spokeswoman disagrees with the doctors.  No studies quoted,  no reasons given, just that she disagrees with them.

Please tell me you're not asking me to ignore what two doctors with a combined 40 years of experience between them are telling us, but we should believe what a health services PR mouthpiece says?

Okay remember I said that it's a twitter thread that you need to click through to look at it? I wasn't meaning that you should read the article the Professor posted, I meant to read through his entire comments. VJ doesn't always load the twitter threads correctly. I'll try it again. You need to click the link and scroll through all of the comments.  https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1254483059656716288

You may have given a reason for not believing these Drs.,  but what is the reason for believing the ivory tower bureaucrats (epidemiologists) and what they are saying?  Sure an epidemiologist may have a masters degree, but we all know that this in itself does not make them experts.  Wasn’t it at least one epidemiologist at the WHO that was telling the world there was no human-to-human transmissions while others may have said otherwise?  I know, we have the WHO report from late February for whatever that was worth, but my point is not even all epidemiologists can agree, so how do you tell the difference?

AFAIK, the WHO was the first agency to confirm human to human transmission back in December. Are you confusing that with the tweet about asymptomatic transmission?

Quote

The World Health Organization warned the US and other countries about the risk of human-to-human transmission of Covid-19 as early as 10 January, and urged precautions even though initial Chinese studies at that point had found no clear evidence of that route of infection.

They may be, but that doesn’t mean all epidemiologists agree.  So which experts do you choose to be right?    This isn’t climate change.

Here are some epidemiologists that have contrarian views regarding lockdowns.

Yes, they did, saying it went against "community standards".  But WHAT standard was that, exactly? An opposing view?

It was a professionally produced video done in a local TV station.  And it was factual.  The only problem is that it went against the status quo.  This will be revisited again in the future.

Opposing views are not tolerated. Debate and discussion is archaic, just believe what the government tells you and you will be fine.  Otherwise, it is a re-education camp for you!

Youtube has a TOS just like we do. Youtube has an existing policy that covers posting content that contains medical misinformation. They are enforcing it strictly in regard to Covid-19.

We’re committed to providing timely and helpful information at this critical time, including raising up authoritative sources in search and recommendations and showing information panels, linking to locally relevant sources like WHO, on relevant videos. We will also continue to quickly remove videos that violate our policies when they are flagged, including those that discourage people from seeking medical treatment or claim harmful substances have health benefits. Finding trustworthy content is especially critical as news is breaking, and we’ll continue to make sure YouTube delivers accurate information for our users.

So when are they going to take down the videos of the head of the WHO?
