The messages one gets in the news is mixed about whether the USA will lift the ban anytime soon. I do not count on it in May. Disney here in Florida is said to open up in July, but the international tourism participation remains unsure. Disney is a big European tourist destination here in Florida and the USA. I am not waiting to bring my fiancee over in July, her visa expires on July 8th.

I contacted the CDC and asked if they can authorize a waiver if someone flies into the USA from Austria with a fresh lab test testing negative for coronavirus. In the Vienna airport one can get a test before one boards the airplane for 190 Euros and get the results right there. They will issue a clean health certificate if test is negative and one can take that abroad. I will see what they say given the language in the proclamation that a CDC designee can determine the alien passenger would not pose a risk of spread in the USA.  It is my second try on this, but with additional information that Vienna airport can tests passengers right there and then, if they need it.

Have you heard back about this?

Frankfurt is in the Schenegen zone. Why would you then want to go to Mexico?

For the flight from Frankfurt to Mexico, are we allowed to have transit in US?

Yeah got confirmation can’t even transit in US. Hard to find Mexico flights not having transit in US

My understanding is that you will not be able to board a US bound flight from Schengen due to the travel ban

Yes got confirmation that that’s the case

I wonder if it’s better to stay in Mexico City versus Cancun since bigger city with better infrastructure. Also, German embassy is in Mexico City.

So I will fly to Mexico (Cancun) on the 16th or 17th. Haven't booked anything yet. I will wait for another 2-3 weeks hoping that Trump will say something about lifting the travel ban. If I won't hear anything within 2-3 weeks, I will book a flight to Cancun and another flight from Cancun to Minneapolis for the 1st of July. I do not want to stay in Mexico City for different reasons (e.g. safety). Also, having a beach in the middle of the summer doesn't sound too bad.

I would say Cancun is better because:
1. Lower infection rates
2. Tourist area so automatically safer
3. Riviera Maya wants to revive tourism starting as early as June
4. Beach

Where in the US would you be flying afterwards? If by better infrastructure you mean better hospitals, maybe in the tourist areas the hospitals could be better as they target Americans. Who knows. I don't know why the embassy would be of any importance though.

There isn't just Cancun, you can also fly to Puerto Vallarta or Los Cabos (with a layover in Mexico City).

Dallas. If we drove from Mexico to US, would IR 5 visa holders be able to cross the land border via car or only flights due to the road ban?

I called the CDC again today. Nothing has changed.

I have these news about Cancun. The government there opposes the hotel resorts in Cancun opening up on June 1. Below is the link.
