Hey guys,

Did anyone with a work visa and who already lives in the US try to travel through Mexico or a non Schengen country? My husband and i live both in Chicago since 2017 with L1 visas but are stuck in Germany since March due to the travel ban and are desperately trying to get home, since our whole life is there. Does any of you made it to the US so far and how was the border control and immigration?

I would like to know this too as we were looking at options of a private charter from Bulgaria or Serbia, but one of the companies has just told me this:

As we currently navigate these testing moments globally, restrictions remain very tight in regards to immigration and international arrivals to the US. At this time US Nationals, Green card holders, residents, spouses and parents of the aforementioned if under 21 years of age are permitted to enter, with very little flexibility elsewhere. This is regardless of where our aircraft departs from as we have found through numerous requests recently.
We certainly hope that this is a short term restriction and that by June/July we will be able to arrive here.

Would any of you know of anyone getting in through the Mexico route or another country? My understanding was that the ban only applies to China, Iran, EU, UK and not other places and that people still arrive there on international flights from other countries..?

Thank you for any input.

Hi—because as of right now, the only international flight out of Croatia is a once-daily flight to Frankfurt. We were assuming that transferring planes in Frankfurt would be considered being in the Schengen area, in the eyes of the CBP agent deciding whether or not to let him into the US.

Hello, not sure if this can help but there are some flights from Zagreb to Miami as of beginning of June (some are direct and some have layovers in Istanbul). Maybe flying to Miami and then change flights once in the US could be an option for you?

If I can ever get my visa reissued (London Embassy say not to contact them about it until ‘normal operations have resumed’ so I can’t even book a new appointment yet) I’m going to go to a non banned country for 2 weeks then head to the US. I’m tired of waiting around in limbo! Maybe a few K1s will split the cost of a villa or something 😂.

Wait, what?? My understanding was that visa holders from everywhere EXCEPT China, Iran, Schengen area, UK, and Ireland are allowed to enter the US now. Was I completely wrong in thinking that?

Yes that is what i meant, so from China, Schengen etc you can not travel even if you have a valid status, but from all other countries you can, which makes no sense. because why should it be allowed from other countries....for people that have tourist visas like B1 or so but not for someone who actually lives ther

By the way, is Puerto Rico an option. I havent seen any travel restrictions in place. Or would they have the same as the US?

I just read this info on Frankfurt Airport's website about passport control within the airport...It says that if you are coming from a non-Schengen country and are continuing to a non-Schengen country that passports are not checked, so it seems that that should be a "safe" travel option in the eyes of US CBP, no? If your passport wasn't checked, you weren't there, right?

No, as per DHS https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/faq

Does the restriction also apply to passengers who transited through a Schengen Member State, but did not enter it?

Yes. The Proclamation applies to all travelers, except for those who are exempt, who have been physically present within a Schengen Area country within 14 days of travel to the United States. Physical presence includes transiting through a Schengen country.

Puerto Rico is part of the USA, so one would not be allowed to enter.

The proclamation is for anyone who has been been in the EU Schengen Area for 14 days. It does not matter if whether one lives in one of the countries or has just stopped there. It makes not difference. These are the list of countries:

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The UK and Ireland were also included in the list.

US citizens, and spouses with valid residence can enter even if they were living in those countries. That is the exemption.
