Yes, I did include it in the original package, detailing how we met. It's so sad to think that, if we had another IO, perhaps the outcome would have been different. Good to know this denial won't effect me negatively. I have heard such crazy denial stories from the Islamabad Embassy, and it is sooo scary. Thank you again for taking the time to reply to my post. I wonder if there is a quota, or a certain number of cases they have to deny-or are encouraged to deny- and I was just an unlucky one for the day.

Nah no quota.  Not uncommon for Pakistan.  I doubt you’ll have an issue with CR1 but you might want to grit your teeth and prep for post-interview AP (administrative processing).  Can take awhile.

Hello everyone,

This is my very first post here. I have heard excellent things about this website, so I thought I would give it a go.

I will briefly address my immigration situation here now.  My husband and I have been together for five years now. He is from Pakistan and I currently live in Ohio, US. We filed a K1 Fiance Visa Petition and were denied in April of 2019. At that point, I had been in Pakistan for a total of 1 1/2 years. The reason we were denied was vague. I was quite perplexed as we were physically in the same place for quite some time. The CO was quite rude and threatening to my husband. I did end up getting my local Congressman involved but, ultimately, we were still denied. I came to learn later that most K1 petitions are denied from that embassy. We legally married in Peshawar, Pakistan and I returned to America and filed the CR1 in September of 2019. So far, no NOA2. I have not been back to Pakistan since August of 2019 due to health reasons- an unexpected, severe surgery- and now Covid. I do plan on attending the eventual interview at the embassy, if we are approved by USCIS. From personal experience, how does a K1 denial effect the CR1? Especially at such a difficult embassy (Islamabad). I have heard varying things. Any input would be so greatly appreciated.

I am curious why did you file for fiancé when you were already legally married?

I apologise if I wasn't clear. I filed before marriage and was denied a k1. I then married after the denial and filed a cr1.

You on the right path... The more evidence you have as a married couple the better.... Some folks added life insurance to the mix... Good luck

As everyone said you chose the right track now..... as far as evidence is concerned for cr1 they look good as you both have spent alot of time togeather in Pakistan.

From my personal experience going to interview is not a good idea because than it brings the issue of domicile which is a common concern in Islamabad embassay and also as far as I know they are not allowing anyone in interview not even spouse..... its better you being in Uas when the int happens telling you this from my personal experience.

But do visit Pakistan during this process as it is going to be a long one and these will help establish bonafide marriage.

Sorry to hear your unfortunate story of K1 denial. Even though that embassy is so demanding, your K1 application could have had something wrong. BUT what??????? Please, try to think of what may have been wrong. That is why the CO was dubious.

To me , the engagement should NOT be a big deal. In fact, it is a proof of bona fide relationship, that shows that both of you have the similar expectations and same level of interest. I do not know why the CO refused to take a look at the photos.

Now, i would recommend you to learn from your past mistakes to adjust you CR1 application. Keep gathering evidence and send them to the NVC after  the NOA2. Send even what they don't ask and that you think is relevant and supportive for your case. Do not get alarmed. This is a matter of time and your hubby will meet you here soon.

Good luck on the process and stay safe.

I can see that there  are 2 embassies in Pakistan. Give a try to the 2nd one. Good luck.

I just want to give some hope with a CR1 and overcoming an interview with a forceful CO. We went the K1 route and withdrew our application to get married in my husband’s country (where I have been living for the past 8 years) and make our life in his country. A few months later some things changed with my employer and we ended up having to file CR1 to change our plans to move to the USA. Very long story short, during the interview I was present and the CO continued to tell my husband that he looked like someone who had applied for a visa before and accused him of lying. She was very forceful and threatened lifetime ban 4 or 5 times. He continued to be steady while I was a wreck inside. We told her that we applied for the K1 in 2017 but nothing else. She accused him of looking like someone who applied with someone else before that. We knew this wasn’t the case because over the last year he gained a significant amount of weight from stress and he doesn’t even look like the same skinny guy that I was with over the last 5 years. She said that he looked like someone else and took his fingerprints a second time. When seeing that they didn’t match, again, she finally let up and said we were approved. We leave for the USA next week.

Before our interview, we could hear her interviewing another man, the American wife was not present, she also accused him of lying about the timing of his wedding ceremony (he told her they had 2 ceremonies) and he wasn’t able to overcome it and she sent him away with a request for more evidence and DNA tests.

Spend as much time together as possible, go over the petition again and again with your husband and make sure that he knows the exact details before the interview so if they are forceful he doesn’t get flustered and can answer honestly with confidence. She CO didn’t care about any evidence that we brought or photos either. She actually laughed at one of our evidence. She just asked questions very quickly and didn’t even give a moment to answer completely before asking the next one. I don’t know if every interview is like this but prepare your husband for this kind of interview and he’ll be ready if it’s like this again or an easier one where the CO tries to build rapport and understand the relationship.

Blessings and good luck to you!

Are the Immigration agents suspicious that the marriage may fraudulent on both sides or that the Immigrant  (Pakistani) in this case, is trying to hustle the applicant?

Sadly, I am not sure. We were never given a real explanation.

Thank you so very much for sharing your story with me. I am so very sorry that your spouse went through something similar. I cannot believe that they are allowed to treat the applicants like this!
