The key is checking with the US Embassy -- the answer as to whether immigrant visa holders can travel on a specific flight out of a specific country can vary based on a number of factors, including things like whether:

  • the flight is a commercial flight that was only organized by the US government versus paid for by the US government;
  • there are at least enough or more than enough US citizens and/or LPRs who have already contacted the US Embassy about leaving to fill the flight -- they will always have priority in any plans the US government makes;
  • the host country government has put any restrictions on the flight as to who can go out on it.

These are just some examples of factors that make answers vary from flight to flight and country to country.  So, best to check with the source and monitor the US Embassy for notices about flights and other information.

To Op

There is a time when you need to not listen to your parents.  This is that time now.  If you can buy that flight for $5000 now to get to US ASAP, book that flight ASAP.

Otherwise you will be telling stories 15 years down the road you had a IV in hand and you listened to your mom for the airport to open.  If flight is flying, airport is open.  get on the flight.
