We as a society and United States are not making decisions to save ONE life, it's to save all of our lives, as many as possible, or at least a large populace of it. It's not what some other persons want. I can understand those motivations, but I will never ever agree with them. With no people alive that are filled with confidence that the danger has passed there will not be the economic ride you're looking for. Disasters have consequences and we will be a different world for a long time. Some will continue being upset about it or some will be happy that the good lord has seen fit to still give us what we really need in this life that is most precious afterall - our lives, and our families safety.

It has nothing to do with being selfish, but rather looking at the entire picture.  Economic catastrophe will impact many more people within the US and outside than this virus will.

Those who are terrified of the virus are free to stay self-quarantined at home.

Those who are not terrified of the virus should be free to live their own lives ("my body, my choice").

Those who are not ready to patronize reopened businesses are free not to patronize them.

Those who are ready to patronize those business are free to.

 

This lockdown has morphed from "keep too many people from dying" to "keep anyone from getting sick, at any cost."  That's wrong thinking and impossibly flawed policy, and it won't work.

     Hypothetically, lets say you are allowed to go back to normal and do everything you normally would, go to work, recreation, whatever other things you normally do. However in order to do all those things, you must sign a waiver forgoing any medical treatment related to Covid-19?  Would you be willing to do that?

There would be no reason to do that, since we don't do such for AIDS, the flu, etc.  Just live a normal life.  I haven't really changed my practices much at all, except doing a fist bump in place of hand shaking and wearing masks into stores (I'm really.puzzled by idiots wearing their masks driving around in their vehicles???).

 

I shop when I need to, go out when  i need to.  Haven't been to the beach in 6 months, except in other countries.

  There would be. We can't keep deferring routine and elective procedures for ever. We will ultimately have to go back to having a small number of ICU isolation beds and ventilators available for treating Covid-19. Just like we would for a normal flu season. The rest of the hospital beds will have to go back to what they were intended for. Other illnesses are just as important as Covid-19. 

 

  Now if there are people that feel that the risk of spreading Covid-19 is no big deal, then maybe they should be willing to accept the consequences of that decision if the SHTF again. If the system hits capacity, lets prioritize the people who were trying to avoid spreading the disease. We are asking for personal responsibility, and that is what personal responsibility is all about.

 

  It was a hypothetical question of course, but I am sure no one is actually going to say they are willing to do that.

People might have several errands, and it's safer to keep your mask on than take it off and put it back on several times in a short timespan

Thanks, we have so many medical experts here, it would be an honor to be on the VJ expert Covid-19 committee. 

As my first proposal, I suggest we quit quoting conspiracy theory sites that swear this virus came from a Chinese lab, or us no deadly than the flu, or us a conspiracy to keep Trump from reelection.
