Application has been "under review" for 5 months now

Hi,

I am in the process of petitioning my parents from Italy. I applied in November 2019 and up until now, the website still says "under review". I don't remember anymore what comes next or how long does this review normally takes as it's been years since I did the same process for myself. I understand there's a delay due to Covid-19 but I wanted to see if 5 months of review is normal. I have received a receipt number for both of my parents so far. Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the prompt reply. One year is not unusual? But it's just the initial review process, not the whole process. Basically the website says "Your benefit request has been accepted and is under review." I don't remember waiting this long for mine to get approved so I could move on with the process.

Thank you. I just didn’t realize that’s how long it takes now just to get an answer- if the application is approved or what. My process took 6 months from beginning to end (this was almost 4 years ago)

I’m assuming those timelines are from beginning to end. From the date you receive the first NOA to visa issuance. My question was more about how long does the review take after the first NOA. That’s where I’m at. I submitted the I-130s in November and after two weeks I got a letter from them with a receipt number. The status has been under review since then. I understand it takes over a year sometimes for the whole process to finish. Mine took 6 months from beginning to end and 3 months for naturalization. So forgive me if I’m being impatient 😅

No, as I said, those are processing times at USCIS service centers, till approval. Then it goes to NVC and then to the embassy for an interview slot.

Times have changed a lot. My naturalization took me almost 14 months from filing to oath. That’s not average but it’s not unusual either (large centers take a long time generally). 3 months is almost unheard of these days.
